90% All Ele Res - How much DPS is it worth?
Hi,
I'm looking to gauge people's opinion on how much DPS it's worth sacrificing to get 90% all res. Let's say this person has 50 mil dps to keep the numbers easy and to avoid "you need a baseline of x mil in the first place". Spell suppression is great though it doesn't affect attacks. So many modifiers involve "% added as X-ele damage" mods in maps and having 90% all res is like taking 60% less ele damage from all sources of ele damage when compared to 75%. Depends on the builds as far as I know
There is one build I use, the Herald of Agony necro which is at 39m Shaper DPS, and its focused on Suppression There is a version of it that is at 85% ele cap (Retaining the other defenses) but at 32m Shaper DPS You can check it here for reference https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3264207/page/1 So on that note, I'm guessing if we push it further to 90%, we might lose a couple million more, but hey, we only need a minimum of 1m DPS fora comfortable shaper fight "For we are not now that strength, which in old days moved Earth and Heaven. There is no real answer to this. It entirely depends on how much you value not dying. Personally my first priority when making a serious build is to have it not die. After that i start worrying about how much damage i can get out of it. Meanwhile it's also perfectly viable to consider 6 portals your only means of defense. Purely subjective as long as it works for you.
/edit One thing to consider when deciding would be what content you wanna run. There is a lot of penetration running around nowadays, depending on what content you wanna do 90 all res might not be all that beneficial defensively. Last edited by Baharoth15#0429 on Sep 20, 2023, 2:34:06 AM

Considering how PoE works, more damage outweights the needs for defenses, after a threshold.
With 50mill damage, most monsters can't even touch you(depending if your build is ranged or melee, we won't get into that or i'll rant for a few pages), so getting more defenses will only be noticeable if you get enough to avoid one shots, otherwise, it's a waste of resources. If, however, you make a chonk build (90% all res, 100k+ armour, block, etc), 10mill damage is enough to do anything in the game comfortably without losing too much efficiency in clearing maps (again, highly dependant in which build you use, but you get the idea). Just to prove the point, i have a Kinetic Blast build with 0 defenses, low life and literally negative resistances, but with enough projectiles to dps 2 screens around me. As long as nothing gets near me, i can clear the map easily. I use it on 5 ways and i only really die if i fail to get one of the generals off me. 5-6k life, capped res and 0% chaos res, that's the baseline. After that, damage (and range) is king. Ruthless should be [Removed by Support].
