Voidstones should be earned from bossing OR mapping
Having Voidstones only drop from killing end game bosses, when they are vital to mapping makes no sense and stifles build diversity, there should be a way to drop them from both Bossing AND Mapping.
Yes you can buy a boss carry, but if the solution to fully unlocking proper mapping strategies and choosing what maps you want to play, is to pay someone else to kill something that has no thing to do with mapping then that is a flaw in game design in my honest opinion. One of the crowning and most praised features of Path of Exile is that you get to create your own end game by via choosing a specific atlas tree build that works for your build/enjoyment and then doing that, being able to do this effectively shouldn't be gated behind Boss killing or paying for a boss kill. 2 things:
1) Voidstones are NOT "vital" to mapping. It has been quite a few leagues since I've used more than 2 voidstones and have bankrolled numerous high end characters. 2) It is your choice that you "have to buy a carry" for a boss fight. You could also put in the actual effort to learn the fight and beat the boss. Or tweak your current build to make it more of a boss killer. Once you learn how to do it, you literally only need to do it once and it takes all of, what, 5 minutes max? Bosses have taken a lot of design manpower, and are core to the Path of Exile story. Of course the devs want to make you at least experience them ONCE. I'll also add: saying bossing has "nothing to do with mapping" is a ridiculous statement. The entire atlas and mapping in general is centered around the bosses and the stories behind them. Mapping, in its essence, is simply a vehicle to reach the boss. They are 100% intertwined with each other. They may require different skills and different builds, but they are most certainly not completely unique experiences. DELVE has nothing to do with mapping. HEIST has nothing to do with mapping. From a lore standpoint, it actually makes certain sense that voidstones are locked behind the bosses. You beat the god or celestial being, gain their power to use to beef up your atlas. Or you beat the god, they get pissed, and curse you with harder maps. No voidstones are not vital at all for mapping. Two of them are pretty simple and easy to get by simply slapping tutorial exarch and eater which both are handed out for free. The other two fights are also pretty easy on a more enhanced character and the fights are also handed out pretty much for free just by mapping.
Same as the fav slots, if you can't handle to obtain them you for sure won't need either slots or voidstones cause your character is for sure not ready to run juiced t16 maps anyways. And for simple mapping you don't need either voidstones or fav slots Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun.

" I'm pretty sure most people want 4 voidstones if they wanna run their favorite map, because imagine the map you wanna run is a low-tier one, well it won't be t16 unless you put in 4 voidstones. Also voidstones give map drop as higher tier % chance, which means you will either have more sustain or you can unspec atlas passives for map drop % as higher tier. And 4 voidstones makes all unique maps t16, some people care about that because of Coward's Trial rotas,Mao Kun currency farming etc. Then you have to either spend an eternity farming for an uber elder set and maven invitation(and its very fun if you get duplicate fragments for uber elder), or spend 5 minutes and some chaos to buy voidstone carries off trade 820/tft lol |

And yeah I would love for an alternate way to get all 4 voidstones, right now it just takes way too long. Not as bad as the 32 watchstones when Sirus was the final boss of the game but still annoying to do, which is why most people buy carries and get em instantly as soon as they're done with quest Exarch and Eater and have their 2 stones.

Dislike the discrepancy between mapping and bossing in this game. And you need to do bossing for mapping and mapping for bossing with both being quite different both in gameplay and in builds. I dont think this is quite right. Would be better if bossing would give benefits mostly for bossing and mapping mostly for mapping.
No wonder it's lost, it's in the middle of the jungle!

The misconception of op is that they think that just because there is an open slot for a voidstone it has to be filled to "play the game".
You have access to plenty of T16 maps with 2 voidstones. Consider the 2 next voidstones your stepping stone into pinnacle content. After you have unlocked 4 voidstones the natural next step is the uber versions of those bosses. Why would you want to skip the stepping stones just to jump to pinnacle bosses that you cannot kill anyway(if you can't even do the normal versions).
