Volcanic Fissure projectiles don't receive damage from Facebreaker.

The actual fissure creates the projectiles, why wouldn't the projectiles receive the damage? They were created by the melee attack so they should receive the benefit from the added damage. As far as I can tell from gem tags, it's the only melee skill that generates projectiles for an unarmed attack.

No, in such skills, melee and projectile damage is calculated separately. And Facebreaker only says "Melee Attacks".
Is the projectile a separate attack? Because 'Volcanic Fissure' is a melee attack.
Yes.
Melee part

Slam the ground, creating a winding fissure that deals area damage while travelling outwards.

Proj part

When it reaches the target location it erupts, releasing a burst of molten projectiles.

The projectiles are not melee, and do no benefit from any melee-specific bonuses. They are dealing your weapon damage, and do benefit from bonuses to your weapon type, or categories which include your weapon.
So you punch the ground so hard that the projectiles that come out of the ground do 800% less damage. Ok... Seems counter intuitive to the way slams work. This interaction makes it a strike with extra steps.

It doesn't even make sense to allow the skill unarmed when the only two ways of making unarmed viable render the projectiles useless.
