Please explain to me how casual are supposed to enjoy poe?
" They can, but they have to temper expectations, be willing to fail over and over, be willing to be frozen to death, rammed to death, burned to death, electrocuted to death, all before getting to the first miniboss who has no flask refill mechanism. If they can get past alllll that, then maybe they will make it to Act 2 and beyond. |

" When people mention this or that number, I always wonder how many of them are bots. As for the question, casuals don't really play poe. They try it out. Then either drop it, or play it to death and fail to be qualified as a casual. This simply isn't a game you pick up and play 3 hours a week or whatever. |

" Casual's do play PoE, but what we consider Casual, is already more hardcore than true casual players. True casual players are not like to get off the beach, let alone beat Merveil. What we consider "Casual" is the player who picks some build someone made, copies it 1 to 1, or worse copies the names of the items, but ignores the mods on the items. These players are "Casual", and they do not play the game that much, usually enough to get to mid tier maps, maybe red tier maps if a cheap build is suddenly OP, then they quit. The more hardcore players are those who make their own build as they go, change how they are playing based on what drops they get, and they play a lot, trying to get as much seasonal achievements as they can, or complete as much optional end game content as possible, and generate as much income as possible. Potentially even going so far as to play the full duration of a league, if they are able to obtain or create items that will have a ton of value in standard. Then that player base is segmented further with SSF and Hardcore, plus their variants. Most of the player base, about 95% are casual players. However, all of those casual players, are not true casual players, because by design they would not be playing this game to begin with if they were. The game is too far complex these days, compared to a decade ago, and those players wouldn't want to put in the time to learn the complexities. Chroniccomplainerreviews.wordpress.com

This must be a trick question. So you answer a trick question with another question like "Aren't casual suppose to play Pokemon?" "Don't they usually just quit and play other games?"

" I dont agree with your definition. Casuals by your understanding have no hands and below 60 IQ. While the game indeed gets complex down the line, following a solid guide will most definately get u into white maps within 20 hours of playtime even for casuals or beginners. Dont make the game, and the campaign especially, harder than they are |

Casuals are supposed to enjoy the game casually. It's not really rocket science. What they absolutely shouldn't do, is to have the same goals, strategies and expectations as a very dedicated player.
If you can't enjoy the game without having the best items, beating the toughest bosses and having the most optimized strategies, you're trying to be way more than a casual player. Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

Introduced PoE to someone. After killing Brutus they said they have visually no clue what's going on. And that was around level 12. I said to myself, boy you don't wanna know what happens when you're doing a fully juiced T16 ritual.

" That was essentially my point tbh. If we don't move the goalposts by making hardcore gamers into casuals in POE, true casuals don't really play this game. Getting to maps is something a very small percentage of players have done (look up achievement percentages). POE is simply a very different beast. You either go in deep, or you quit. There isn't really a middle ground due to the vast complexity of the game, and the steep learning curve. That's not necessarily a criticism of the game or the (usually hated) "casuals", it's just how it is. There are other games people can enjoy for a few hours now and then, in between putting kids to bed and going to bed for example. |

Was really hard convincing my friends to try out the game, but my brother did stick with the game after he realized how much freedom he had over what he can do.
That said, he realized soon after just how hard it is to get an optimal build on your own without a guide~ "For we are not now that strength, which in old days moved Earth and Heaven. That which we are, we are; one equal strength of heroic hearts, made weak by time and fate, but strong in will: to strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield." - Ulysses, Tennyson

" Can't really move the goal post when it's not really "set" from the beginning. The term "casual player" isn't the same as it was 10 years ago, and it's certainly not a term set in stone with a clear definition. Debating semantics is often as productive as punching someone in the face, but in this case, it's pretty important as a premise for the discussion. And If you or I were to 'define' the casual player, we would both draw a subjective conclusion based on our personal bias. Why? Because we can't look this up, especially when it comes to hours played or something like that - because, again, there's not a set definition. So moving the goal post? Your goalpost? My goalpost? Because there is no "the" goalpost. People define "casual" anyway they seem fit, be that to support their narrative or debunk someone else's. So no matter how this discussion is being played, the OP should (of course) define his subjective interpretation of what a casual is, before asking how that person could enjoy the game. He's talking about Ubers, for crying out loud... And currency per minute. And even my cat (which I don't have) could see that there's TONS of content to be played and enjoyed without worrying (or even thinking/knowing) about Ubers, currency per hour or "optimal builds". It's about "goals". And a casual player should have casual goals, not measure themselves up against non-casual players, Ubers or currency per hour. I have never beaten an Uber boss, nor do I look at currency-per-hour statistics. I play what I want to play, sometimes META shit, sometimes not. And I play the game at my own pace. Do I feel like seeking knowledge to enhance my gaming experience, I do so. Sometimes, I play for 10 hours a week, sometimes 2, but when I have some time off from family, job or other hobbies, I can play 15-20 hours. Am I a casual? Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile. Last edited by Phrazz#3529 on Oct 22, 2023, 11:29:18 AM
