GamesCom / PoE 2 Demo Feedback
I don't see another thread yet about this topic and I'm not sure if this is even the right place to post it, but here's my feedback regarding the gamescom PoE2 demo:
First of all the booth in total was amazing, easily one of the best I ever saw at a convention. Good queue-time-to-play-time ratio, a lounge for talking with the devs and everybody was 110% passionate about the game. There were a few things that still could probably be improved for PAX. I attended Gamescom together with my GF who never played PoE, so we had some very different perspectives. - There was a 60 FPS cap for the demo. 60 FPS just looks a bit stuttery when you are used to playing on high refresh rate monitors. The GPUs (RX 7900XT) were quite underutilized and the monitors looked like they probably supported higher refresh rates, so not sure why the 60 FPS limit was set when the hardware could have handled way more. 120/144 FPS on a compatible monitor would probably showcase the smoothness of the new animations even better. - The option menu is fully locked in the demo. Understandably so. Having some options accesible to change or at least check the keybinds and maybe adjust map overlay transparency would have been nice tho. - My GF rarely plays ARPGs, but then its usually with a (PS5) controller instead of keyboard/mouse. With PoE1 having console releases, PC/SteamDeck controller support and with a competing ARPGs currently having its playerbase looking for new stuff to play, offering the choice of playing the demo wit a controller instead of KB/M could have been great - For people dragging their friends/gfs/bfs to the booth, it would be helpful to have a more beginner-friendly option suggested to them. The lower acts were a bit friendlier for new players as generally monsters don't have as many mechanics as on higher levels, but it was still quite hard for beginners and it wasn't obvious that those were the bit easier options. - The passive tree is locked: I understand why it's necessary but it's also a bit weird. Beginners will ask "nice I levelled up, where can I spend my points?". It could be made clearer that the tree is locked in the beta or you could just have the tree covered in fog-of-war except for the starting area of the classes or something like that. - The game time of 25 mins is very generous, but having it run to 0 during the final stages of a bossfight can be a bit frustrating. Having the time extended until the boss battle attempt is over (kill/die/TP) would be more exciting imho. - If there was merch (new shirts etc), we would have bought some. One of the devs said there was a problem this time with importing/shipping the merch from NZ, but maybe for one of the future conventions there is a way. Last bumped on Aug 27, 2023, 9:39:19 PM
