Sentinel of Radiance and DoT kill credit

I recall that enemy killed by damage over time is credited to be killed by the player, even if the DoT is from minions. Was this behaviour changed at some point in the past?

I want to use the new Guardian's Sentinel of Radiance to sustain herald of purity while mapping. But after trying it out, it seems that when enemies dies from the burning damage (no hit at all), no sentinel of purity was summoned, and other on kill effects do not trigger either.

If your minion/totem/etc dies and then kills something, it causes troubles with kill rewards attribution, because the game has issues with finding who is the owner of the died entity. That's why this workaround exists and kills of most DoTs are attributed to the main guy - your character.

RF-like DoTs can't kill enemies if their user is dead, so the kills are credited directly in this case.

I've just seen this too.

The Sentinel of Radiance ability seems inconsistent with other DoTs applies by minions (poison/bleed) which attributes the kill credit to the player.

I guess this means it's being handled in some other way that's neither a hit not a dot? Strange.
