Onslaught corruption implicit on weapons

If I have the "chance to gain onslaught on kill" corruption implicit on the weapon, would that effect be only local to the kills made with that weapon, aka attack skills, or would the effect trigger even if I kill the enemies with spells and other skills that don't scale off the weapon?

To be more specific, if I have the Mjölner with % chance to gain Onslaught for 4 seconds on Kill corruption implicit, and have the Manabond spell slotted into it, which triggers with Mjölner's passive and kills enemies, would that trigger the onslaught?
