Maximum of 8 skills at a time

Are you guys <please do not insult others>? When you have basically 6 slots (one slot per piece of gear that can hold gems) in your linked gear for a skill, and the rest are support gems, that means you can only really use 6 skills. Take one piece of gear out of the equation for any auras (lets say 3 and one support) and that leaves you with 5! FIVE skills... and for the most part, you will only really use 4 of them.

A curse, a totem, a main attack, a trap, and an AOE. Now you could have duel totems, or dual curses, or double fire traps, or some crazy crap.. but really, how many crappy abilities do you want to use vs. using only a couple of really good ones?

LOL. As I have triple curses (thinking of 4 on my summoner actually ^^) on many characters then, yes, I can easily end up wanting more slots than we have now. I also use mouse 1 as a move command as this is much much safer way in a complicated situation to make certain you MOVE somewhere ASAP than risk issuing a command.

Just because something doesn't seem helpful for the way you play, doesn't mean it wont be helpful for others. And again as you don't have to use the extra spell slots anyway, why the big fuss about this suggestion?

Counterpoint:

A previous FP witch that I ran completely ran out of skill slots, really early into her cycle. This is what she used:

1) Freezing Pulse, fully loaded with supports, this was for close and medium range.
2) Ice Spear, also loaded with supports, this was for long range.
3) Lightning Teleport, as an escape or just for general movement
4) Raise Zombie, because 3 zombies are always useful.
5) Enduring Cry, because +20% resists and DR....
6) Ice Nova, for a nice group AoE

Spell Totem +
7) Summon Skeleton, because, yes
8) Critical Weakness Curse--my primary curse, and I liked to have it on a Totem so that I could continue DPSing while it was going.

Optional:
9) Frostbite--which is a curse I used on white mobs in maps
10) Cold Snap--for when I needed a quick freeze on a specific group of opponents.
11) Move only--I always like having at least one key for this, but it was hard to have in

Since Added:
12) Arctic Armor

And this is without counting auras.

Now, when she started I used Decoy Totem instead of my spell totems, and I had Power Siphon on her for a while because I was already using two wands. I later switched out to dual daggers though for crit chance. Admittedly, I would have liked to have Viper Strike and Leap Slam added, because some bosses (Gravicius and Merveil, in particular) are nice to be able to take down with chaos damage, despite the risk of taking a couple seconds to attack melee.

That's a lot of potential skills a person could use, and with 24 possible slots, you *can* have 3 auras + Reduced Mana, up to 3 skills + Totem, 2 curses for different situations, 1 5L skill, 1 escape skill, 1 secondary 4L skill, and another 4L skill or 4 situational skills.

And, this isn't even talking about the skill room that trap users have to manage.

As I thought, I'm not the only one that ran out of skill slots.
But, is there any official word on this? Whether it's by design, it's just an oversight, anything?
8 skill slots is intentional by design making u take a choice of what u wil use durring combat for a certain area and limiting ure choicees "intentionaly"

It's like people being able to use 3 fire trap gems, they are allowed to do so, at the cost of a skill slot.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

You're supposed to make choices.

If you're sypposed to make choices (and I believe this is a good thing), why are you able to swap out skills without them deactivating?

This. Precisely this.

I can accept forcing us to use a maximum of 8 skills at any given time, although I'd prefer we'd be free to have more variety, but anyway right now you can use as many skills as you want, it's just extremely clunky and unwieldy.
I would like an aura key set that lets you cast up to 8 aura skills at the same time. Alternatively PoE could store which auras you had active the last time you closed your client and just keep them casted.

The same goes for pets!
PoE needs better social features... and more cats!

Because auras aren't active skills?
