Perfomance Issue since newest Patch - possible multithreading error
Hey there GGG team and exiles,
I, like a lot of people it seems, am running into massive lag and performance issue. I haven't played since before Exile Con so i can't determine when this started but my guess is with the latest patch. It was "fine" before exile con. I have tried a few different things and hope that this might help pinpoint the issue. This is the system I started with: CPU: Intel Core I7 3,4 Ghz Ram: 16 Gb Kingstone ddr3 1600 Graphics Card: Nvidia 1050Ti 4Gb Sandisk Ultra II ssd Network Card: Killer K1 Soundcard: Creative X-Fi sounblaster Mainboard: Gigabyte G1 Sniper 2 Operating system: Win 10 Pro TLDR: Swapping components, changing power management settings or graphics or sound settings didn't help. Setting the Engine Multithreading to disabled removed the lag issue as far as I can tell. But it also drops the overall performance to 40fps while standing still in my hideout. Description of the issue: Massive lagspikes and performance issues especialy with mobs and dying mobs on screen. Error persists in hideout, Maps, MAIN MENU AND LOGIN SCREEN! Yes I can see the torches lagging and stuttering. I tried/did the following with no perceived influence on the issue: Made sure it is not my networking by swapping to wlan for a try and changing carrier of my connection. Made sure all drivers are up to date. Checked the system temps just for sanity. Changing the graphics details Changing the renderer Changing display mode Deactivating the sound Swapping the GPU for a MSI1080 8GB Reinstalling the graphics driver Swapping the harddrive to a samsung 860 evo 1tb (note i didn't re download POE rather copied the ggpk and ran the installer!) Changing the OS from Win 10 pro to a fresh install of win 10 pro atlas, so no i don't think its a windows service or update thing. Changing the Power behavior and energy settings for both system Configurations. (Including setting the Cpu minimum processor state to 70%; 98% and 100%) This helped, but brought my average FPS to a crawl, understandably: Disabling the Engine Multithreading under Advanced settings. this worked with both system specs and both operating systems this also works with different graphics settings and renderers This is the system config i will use going forward: same as above but with the 1080 8GB card and the Samsung 860 evo drive. HWinfo64 screenshot: ![]() Multithreading disabled in hideout with minions running around: ![]() Multithreading enabled in hideout with minions running around: ![]() Multithreading enabled reentering a map that had spikes all over but with no mobs or minions in sight, I thought that is curios so i added it: ![]() Things i didn't check: Give POE just one or less than all CPU core via task manager or command instead of deactivating Multithreading. Hope this helps, I will try to come back to this for questions as much as possible. Stay sane Exiles! Probably C-states issue, i had that after perfomance patch aswell.
This will probably help you, tho managing power plans is quite annoying https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/t1d01u/performance_guide_secrets_of_stuttering_how_i/ |

@Moonlight666X Sir! Thank you! This actually worked. I have no idea how you recognized this or how someone gets to this solution but praise be to you for suggesting this.
Update to the situation and possible solution for others: Moonlight666X's solution worked, at least for me: https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/t1d01u/performance_guide_secrets_of_stuttering_how_i/ Deactivating C states like described in the reddit post removed the Cpu lag/stuttering with Multithreading enabled. Yep ! I was having the same issue after the most recent patch, found this fix today and after turning off C states for my CPU the game is buttery smooth. Hope this gets fixed
