Faster attack support

Hi all,

I am still a noob so need some guidance. I am using in almost every build in my main dmg dealing 6 link a "faster attack support/faster casting support" gem.

I saw a lot of builds where people are not using them.

I am wondering if I try to swap "faster attack support" to something else I see less dmg per second on the offence tab (when you press C).

For example now I am using "Glacial hammer" as my main dmg skill. No matter what I swap "faster attack support" to I see less dmg.

Any idea why I am not seeing in EVERY build faster attack/faster casting support gems?

First off: NEVER trust the tooltip

A lot of the dmg is conditional. Like Hypothermia for instance deals more dmg when the enemy is chilled and the tooltip ignores that.

Secondly: Atk/cast speed do have diminishing returns and its fairly easy to stack sufficient numbers by others means. Onslaught for 20% cast/atk/movespeed is very popular and it doesnt matter how you get it.
Could be a silver flask, could be Graceful Assault on the tree etc.

Atk builds also often utilize Blood Rage for flat atk speed as well as generating Frenzy Charges as another source for even more atk speed and a generic more dmg multi.

Third: Most builds deal more than enough dmg to overkill trash mobs multiple times over, which means having more atk speed doesnt do much other than getting faster out of the animation - which can be relevant.


Overall faster atk/cast speed is pretty much only relevant for leveling until you got all the other sources for speed lined up and then drop it for actual dmg.

Also attacking/casting spells faster uses up more mana, so you need more mana regen.
