Actually not only does gold drop but when you sell items to a npc, you get gold instead of orbs/shards. So in Path of Exile 2 gold will become the main currency.

No, gold will play some role during campaign and maybe niche later on.

Instead of selling stuff for alts and mutes, now buying gear from a vendor is the campaign way. This is actually a little bit more new player friendly as well, it starts the crafting a bit later on. It also removes the need to know the difference between selling ided and unided and such, to get those +10 movespeed boots.


They also mentioned you can gamble by buying unid items that can roll unique, which is the later niche for gold (gwennen-like).
