Shader computations tank perfomance after latest patch
![]() Once shader calculations are done perfomance is more or less fine (somewhat flat part of the graph on the left side) but once it needs to do shader work it drops to low 10s and completely stalls sometimes. i5-6600, GTX 970, 32GB RAM, game is installed on SAMSUNG 870 EVO SSD. ![]() ![]() Dropping settings doesn't solve shader issue, on the contrary it is impossible to change them on the fly since it introduces flickering issue which makes it hard to test without restarting the game. I'd like to do a little bump here to add that after shader compilations are done in one particular area the game runs reasonably well. However, after a game restart shader compilation begins anew even though I run same area (blood aqueducts in my case) using same character, MTX, skills, etc.
I have tried changing power settings in windows, updating my drivers, tinkering with NVIDIA control panel settings, using high priority for CPU in task manager. Also it takes about 30sec to 1 min to load into Highgate after every game restart. These issues were not present before 3.21.2 patch. Last edited by Andrew756#7206 on Jul 28, 2023, 6:05:23 AM

Just realized you probably need full graphs perfomance window:

Same for me.
No matter how many of the same area I reset, the shader will load for a minute every single fraking time. Changing zones takes forever, unplayable performance most of the time, and every skill/mob does not appear at first use/spawn. Completely destroyed the game with that bloody patch. FOR FOUR DAYS NOW. I think it's been 7 days now, and we have no ETA on a fix, and they haven't rolled the patch back or anything yet. guess I'm probably not getting my challenges completed this season.
I am also bumping this post as my post came off as a lot less informative, and mre angry than it probably should. I'm just genuinely angry this has been an issue, and for this long....I can't even play the game as standing in Highgate puts my PC at 100% CPU usage, and 4-6% GPU usage. It doesn't make sense, if the new particle stuff was suppose to put more strain on the GPU, why is it at 4-6%, with my GPU maxxing out, when it was around 16-23% on average before the update. |

I'm not sure it's relevant but I've noticed this in game's log file (I'm currently running steam version of the game):
2023/07/28 11:32:12 248818078 84a7bd5a [INFO Client 11260] [ENGINE] Running Engine version 2.0.0 2023/07/28 11:32:12 248818078 84a7bd51 [INFO Client 11260] [ENGINE] Old file Engine version detected 0.0.0 2023/07/28 11:32:12 248818093 84a7d21d [INFO Client 11260] [ENGINE] Wiping cache Minimap at C:\Users\***\AppData\Roaming\Path of Exile\Minimap.tmp 2023/07/28 11:32:12 248818093 84a7d21d [INFO Client 11260] [ENGINE] Wiping cache MOTDCache at C:\Users\***\AppData\Roaming\Path of Exile\MOTDCache.tmp 2023/07/28 11:32:12 248818093 84a7d21d [INFO Client 11260] [ENGINE] Wiping cache ShopImages at C:\Users\***\AppData\Roaming\Path of Exile\ShopImages.tmp 2023/07/28 11:32:12 248818093 84a7d21d [INFO Client 11260] [ENGINE] Wiping cache ShaderCacheD3D12 at C:\Users\***\AppData\Roaming\Path of Exile\ShaderCacheD3D12.tmp And I have noticed that AppData\Roaming\Path of Exile folder does indeed get wiped of all those folders on every start up. Feels kinda futile now that I thought I was building up shader cache but it was actually wiping on every restart. Last edited by Andrew756#7206 on Aug 3, 2023, 10:04:47 AM

That would be nuts. I hope it's not doing that for everyone, spent four hours trying to build up shaders, I don't have any more will to launch this game again if it's actually pointless. What a huge waste of time this has all been.
More than a week in, still unplayable. https://www.youtube.com/user/PeipeMasta

" Hi! Are there any folders in AppData\Roaming\Path of Exile that don't get wiped? Or do any of the folders listed as being wiped in the log file remain there as empty folders? If either of that happens, manually clearing the whole Appdata\Roaming\Path of Exile folder should fix the issue. |
|
" Sadly, even after deleting the whole folder game keeps wiping it clean on every restart and populating it with the same folders again. |

game still unplayable after patch..
