The latest 6GB patch is causing an error on Steam Deck when loading the game…
The error reads - “unsupported backbuffer image count”
It’s in front of a blank black screen and won’t load the game at all after multiple attempts. The game was successfully loading on the Steam Deck before the patch. Last bumped on Jul 27, 2023, 12:11:10 AM

Removing this as it is no longer necessary and so no one links to it in 3 years talking about how they found a "great tweak".
--- Update: The hotfix on July 25th seems to have addressed this issue, you should be able to just delete the .drirc and carry on. Last edited by dkamerad#1721 on Aug 3, 2023, 12:48:03 PM

Before the patch I was using Proton 7.0-6 on PopOS with MESA to get the game running. After the patch it bricked all three 7.0-6, 8.0-3 and Experimental versions for me while 8.0 and Experimental would only flash a black screen and 7.0-6 throwing the "unsupported backbuffer image count" error.
With the following fix [1] (thank you kindly) I got all three versions running - testing Experimental for now assuming to achieve best performance -. As a sidenote don't forget to backup your filters. Luckily booting with different Proton versions did not reset my filters yet but I can recall losing all my filters last time after having to switch Proton versions. EDIT: Thanks to the side effect of making newest Proton run the performance increased quite a lot on my end. Obviously shaders had to be rerendered though. CPU and GPU ( 6800 XT at 100W 55C) running fine. [1] " Last edited by Disruptor#2040 on Jul 24, 2023, 10:14:54 AM

So I was able to add that flag to Lutris to make it work but making that file in my home dir didnt fix steam. Did I do something wrong? Or can someone assit in directing me on what might be going on?

" Doh, thank you for saying you put it in your Lutris's enviornment variables (i.e. you click `configure` > `System options` and then you add them there). I was wondering why the Lutris wasn't picking up the values from the dot file. This env adjustment, fixes the issue for me, too. |
