Account locked because you are logging in from a new location

Okay okay I get it. I have a rotating IP. But SURELY the servers can remember the "last 20 IP's I logged in from" instead of having a "single IP memory"?
Surely? Come one guys, it's been how many years since launch (2013) and you still haven't gotten this right. Player since closed beta 2012. It dose not matter what the server remembers, all that matters is that your IP address changed...and as part of account security that is flagged. (also your IP address would be rotated through hundreds of not thousands addresses that are in your local area)
You could try using steam if it's really bothering you they have a similar but looser restriction on the IP address ranges or you can do something dumb and contact support and ask that they disable the IP lock. My IP switches sometimes between a limited set, not hundreds.
> "It dose not matter what the server remembers, all that matters is that your IP address changed" Yeah, no, this is just absurd logic. It needs to be changed. Player since closed beta 2012. Full system specs: https://pastebin.com/c4rvbvSR

I don't mind putting my password in again. But given that the changes that trigger this are clearly entirely normal behaviour for my ISP (and, I have to imagine, many others - they can't be that special) it has always seemed like this system could stand to do a bit more learning about what normal looks like before it raises a flag.

AFAIK you can ask them to disable it on your account if you have a rotating IP, it isn't a case of them getting it right its a security feature lol

" Really, is this true? I play regularly in 2 locations and constantly get locked out once, if not twice, every single day that I play. There is nothing anywhere to suggest that this security feature can be switched off...I assumed it was baked into the game client programming for everyone. I'm pretty sure I sent a ticket to support about this years ago and was told it could not be done. Last edited by jsuslak313#7615 on Jul 23, 2023, 12:38:32 PM

" It's true, YOU personally cant turn it off you need to email support and then go through an account verification process. It's not advertised anywhere because at the end of the day it would cause more work for GGG to go clean up after people manage to get themselves hacked. Ancestral Bond. " I haven't personally done it yet as mine only changes every few days so I just put up with it tbh but I found multiple sources that said they could turn it off if you contacted support and asked them to. GGG support is generally top tier so I found no reason not to believe them though it could be bunk where multiple people just parroted incorrect information (of which i'd now be one of :P) |

"Those aren’t exclusive options; it’s not one or the other of those, it can just be both. It is a case of them not getting it right, as shown by the fact that they’re not getting it right. |
