Baldur’s Gate 3 sold over 1 million copies 6 days after it hit Early Access. Wow.

Nearly "2 million" as of June 29, 2023: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1086940/view/3657534571513526776

And now it's currently listed as the number-one top seller on Steam.

And yes, we already know about the bear scene.

I've never played any of the Baldur’s Gate games. One of these days after a league I'll give one of them a try.

I guess they though there needs to be more love for furries. But doing soft porn is maybe a little too much.

Gameplay wise this game is nothing like Baldur's gate 1/2 except for its D&D ruleset.

This is a spiritual successor to Divinity Original Sin.

Correct. It's a "Larian" cRPG with the Baldur's Gate name - a far cry from the original games. Barring that, it looks like GOTY material.

Indeed it is. Which is why I have zero interest in it tbh. An actual Baldur's Gate game would be fun and interesting -- but not when it's in name only.

Yes, also called the core of the game, you know, the lore, the mechanics etc. If you define baldurs gate by its realtime exp and dated graphics, there is always neverwinter nights 1&2 to enjoy.

then again dragon age did this aspect a lot better. maybe you should replay that.

Its not in name only. see above mentioned reasons. or maybe you like the dnd... i think it was 2.3 ruleset?

Im gonna drop my 2 cents here:

Baldur gate was kinda ass gameplay-wise: it was eons ahead of its time, but like some classics like age of empires 1, battletoads and goldeneye 007, it aged like milk

I somewhat recently tried to re-experience the game on "enhanced" edition and... yeah... even neverwinter 1 is still enjoyable, but baldur gate is just too archaic, especially after playing divinity, baldur gate feels terrible

Its the small things: "you must gather your party before venturing forth" brings tears on nostalgy at first but those soon turn into tears of rage, i remember painfully clear now that actually i HATED that message and was reminded exactly why
Way too many small qol improvments absent and small things that pile up to turn the experience arduous: Consumables taking massive inventory space, no indication of where exactly is gonna be the affected area from the fireball, having to micro the whole party because the atrocious pathfinding, overprevalence of cheap encounters with enemies spawning from thin air with no warning, no way to adjust the starting place of my party on any encounter outside antecipating or savescumming, many effects that didnt translated well from the pen and paper to videogame transition not being adjusted, walkable areas blending with impassable background making finding wheres the path foward the characters should have spoted already a super tedious affair... the list goes on and on, nothing is a dealbreaker by itself, but they all combo to make the whole thing a real chore to suffer trough

Currently, it reminds me of starcraft 1: A game that is awesome to watch others play but its just feels horrible to play myself. If BG3 is gonna be divinity interface with baldur gate writing, i welcome it with open arms
This game will be awesome

For some reason, I can't seem to be able to jump on this hypetrain. I guess I just don't trust anyone to write a good story, which is a prerequisite for a story-based game like the BG series.
