People advertising sales and not responding

This problem is as old as this game is and this is one of the main problems with this game. If you are going to go afk while having things listed for trade, you can /afk (message). /end rant.

Sometimes you have something urgent come up that you've to run away from the monitor.
And sometimes people don't even wait for 5seconds for the seller to respond and when you respond after 5seconds the potential buyer doesn't respond either.
I think most of the people interested enough in the game to be on the official forums utilizes /afk most of the time. I think it's more the people that would never see this message that don't use it.

As a huge trader, I get much more irate at the people that join my party to buy something, sit in the party for 45 seconds, then leave and don't even have the courtesy to say anything, than people that just don't put /afk.
Yeah it goes both ways. I can't stand inviting someone then going to my hideout just for the person to leave party without saying anything.

1. List something for a good price/bargain (See 1b)

2. get 17 whispers all at once

3. Sell item to the first person and realize you can't respond to everyone

4. Continue to get whispers because the trade site has some lag time

(1b: price fixers list things for artificially low price and never respond to your whispers, but also cause #1 to happen more often)

This is why most people think POE trade is terrible. To solve this problem:

A. recognize that the most bargain prices are a crapshoot and very often already sold

B. if you then insist on trying to only get the best price, mentally prepare to be "whisper #2 out of 17" or #4 one of many who whisper long after the item has sold.

C. Alternately scroll down a little and just buy the 10c one instead of insisting on the 7c ones and almost never EVER HAVE THIS PROBLEM AGAIN.

If you just decided to try Option C. then congratulations and enjoy the rest of your POE career having saved massive amounts of time and used that to make FAR FAR more currency than anyone who's wasting time manually doing it the wrong way.
Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4.
If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years.
5. Also realize there are price fixers and still pm 20 people on the way to the "real" price.

Often times those are price fix verifications, or just spam invite lottery where they just pick the first message.

I wait until I see them enter my HO in the party screen before I meet up.

I want so badly to make an AH comment, but that won't end well lol

covered price fixers in 1b but yeah some sorts of listings will be deeper in price fixers than others for sure, there's absolutely some level of intuition and guesswork. After w while you get really good at recognizing fixers.

I've spent years trading in POE and other games, RP'ing a merchant since Ultima Online (Joke not really RP'ing) POE's trade system could be better but its IMO second only to Ultima Online's player vendors for many complex and compromise filled reasons. The worst economic PvP is in games with AH's dominated almost purely by botters, bid/buyout sniping bots and flipping automation such as BDO. Or overly elaborate convoluted multi currency systems with intentionally trash filtering hidden P2W and flipping mitigation like Lost Ark's.

IMO The best trading systems and economic PvP I've enjoyed is in UO, D2 and POE.
