The Searing Exarch balls phase is horseshit
Granted I never liked bullet hell mechanis in the first place.
But randomized bullet hell is even worse. And then randomized bullet hell that can nonetheless be trivialized if you have a teleport skill is just horseshit. At least let us Leap Slam over the balls. git gud, etc Last bumped on Oct 15, 2023, 8:48:33 PM

You're half right. The Exarch balls aren't horses**t, but leap slam absolutely is.
This is not a git gud post, I'm not attacking you, I'm not making fun of you, and I'm not speaking ironically here when I say any of this: STOP USING LEAP SLAM. IT IS GARBAGE. This is counterintuitive for a lot of players who might mistakenly assume that the game were properly balanced. I'm sure you, quite reasonably, had a thought early on in your current build similar to "I'm a melee build, I've got all this attack speed, clearly this is the movement skill I want." No, it isn't. The skill you want is Flame Dash, linked to Second Wind Support. And someday, you might make a different melee build which uses daggers or claws, and you might see the Whirling Blades skill and think, "that's the one for me." No, it isn't. The skill you want is still Flame Dash, linked to Second Wind Support. And if by chance you decide you want to try playing an archer, you might read the tooltip on Blink Arrow and say, "So it's a travel skill that moves you instantly, allowing you to dodge through hazards such as the Exarch Bullet Hell? And it leaves a decoy behind to draw enemy aggro? That's pretty good, this is DEFINITELY the skill I wa-" NO. The skill you want is Flame Dash, linked to Second Wind Support. did hundreds of exarch and never did the ball phase. I just port out when it starts, go back in and wait until its over, then kill. no need to do the ball phase

" Agreed. Leap Slam and Whirling Blades are for going faster from your current pack to the next one. They are not for getting you out of danger. Though I would argue Flame Dash isn't the only viable skill. I personally prefer Divergent Dash linked to Anomalous Second Wind. The thing I don't like about Flame Dash (other than the high Int requirement) is that only the first flame dash is instant. If you make a mistake and need to do a second dash straight away, it can get you killed. Whereas with my 3 shots of dash, I could expend all 3 if I want without that danger period. The phasing at the end of the dash is nice too (particularly if I'm dashing away from a strongbox). Frostblink is also nice for certain builds. And Lightning Warp if you have sockets to burn. I agree. I can deal with other mechanism but this one this one is just impossible. I tried to dodge, jump with with flame dash, stop the balls with wall of ice and glacial cascade. Nothing works. At some point there are too much balls, they move too fast, the spaces between them are too narrow. They explode even when they don't touch you.
I have seen videos how people pass this boss and the only viable strategy is to have 4 million DPS, and kill the exarch so fast that it doesn't have the opportunity to send more than two or three waves of balls. Unless you have a build that do a minimum of 4 million DPS forget it. Maybe you can dodge the first wave, but next waves will be too much balls and they kill you until you run out of portals. | |
Maven's memory puzzle is fairer for my ADHD ass than the Exarch's bullet hell. Too many things happening at once, almost impossible to dodge. Later uses of that ability get even worse the longer the fight takes.
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.
Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build! MFers found strength in their Afflictions. They became reliant on them. I am not so foolish. |

I think ball phase is far too difficult compared to most mechanics tbh, you should also be able to leap slam over them but everyones thought that is dumb forever so it kinda goes in its own selection.
I've slowly gotten to the stage where I can do the phase reliably with many rips on HC but I still hate it... It doesn't feel right that the regular fights so trivial in comparison. |

I partly agree here, however :
- The fact that the Maven model can HIDE your character / balls during the ball phase is absolutely horseshit. It was already bad during conquerors, but this crap ? holy ..... - The fact that if you don't have high dps, sometimes you can finish one ball phase, start hitting the boss and less than 5 seconds later another ball phase starts is just terrible, it feels like the game is throwing a bit "F. YOU" at your face. Also visibility is crap (let's be honest, it's PoE, so most things are like this), red on red and red and you cannot properly see the ground effect with the balls is terrible. Most new boss fights have been horseshit honestly, I just do them (not even all of them, havent fought Sirus this league) once per league and F. it. SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.
