Extra skill points

I have a couple hundred hours in the game and I'm just starting to try out actual builds I've found. The one I'm following is a toxic rain pathfinder build, and I noticed that it only uses about 91 passive skill points. Is it fine with builds that don't use all skill points for me to just use them on whatever I want as long as it doesn't run counter to the build or should I be very strict in following only the skills a build uses?

What guide/build are you following? I am almost certain there are usage recommendations beyond 91 points somewhere in it.

If you're following a beginner/starter guide the necessary points are, or should be, already being spent to make it viable for end-game. That being said, some guides out there serve as a framework for more advanced players and aren't meant to be followed strictly.

Does the build invest in cluster jewels or uniques of a similar type (i.e. Thread of Hope)? This could easily use up 12+ points.

Are you using Path of Building? Make sure the guide doesn't have an alternate tree for leveling, mapping, etc.

You definitely want to use every skill point, so any "extras" should be invested somewhere into the tree. Experiment a little bit, or look up similar guides, to see what works. If you regret your choices, there's an orb for that.

Thanks I appreciate it. I should have said that I'm still leveling to max but this is really handy to have for when I get there and on the way. Hopefully I'll be able to get enough orbs to respec.
