Where is my energy shield?

Hi there.
I encountered a strange phenomenon: My build uses eldritch battery, so I pay my mana costs with energy shield, which usually works fine. But in a map I suddenly got "I need more mana" all the time. Then I noticed, that indeed my es simply didn't recharge after being depleted, it stayed at zero for a while and only after waiting for some time it recharged normally again.
The map had no mod that said anything about a e.s. or mana recharge malus.
It had desecrated ground, but that only deals a little chaos dot, so I simply don't know what causes this "e.s. stays at zero"-effect.
A friend told me, that since I use the mind over matter keystone, that chaos dot might indeed be responsible, but I still don't get how or why. Or if the whole thing is simply a bug...
Can anybody explain where my e.s. went?

EB + MoM has one major downside

Any sort of dot dmg will prevent ES recharge from kicking in.
So burning ground, desecrated ground, ignites etc etc will be annoying and prevent recharge.
