Dark side of POE. And suggestion how to fix monopoly/price fixing on mirror of kalandra

making mirrors expire would kill the game for people who like to just amass wealth and let it collect dust. Would also damage the game economy some.

so we fight scarcity by introducing more scarcity?

what kind of sorcery is that!?
You force consumption, you can sell it, use it, mirror something good and sell that. It will surely still be valuable, and there's ways to create mirrors, not only drop them. More mirror items would exist, unless people let them expire.

How would that damage the economy, also can you give an example of a healthy economy?

Sure, the orcs in Warhammer who use their teeth as currency, said teeth decay rapidly as Warhammer orcs are made of fungus and as a result they have a horrid economy built on exploitation and what amounts to theft! :D

Oh wait, you said a GOOD economy? Hmm... maybe one where the biggest bill that exists DOESNT delete itself?

You are right on the money.

At the moment TFT (+450k members), a mirror-crafting service discord, is on the top 15 discords when you sort by the total number of members. The other top 14? All products (AI and gaming). Soon, TFT will surpass the PoE sub-reddit (+530k members) and when that happens they will have the reins of the economy and the largest megaphone to control the narrative.

So when you see JeNubu (owner of TFT) holding on to hundreds of mirrors of Kalandra (https://imgur.com/a/pFkWZ1w) within a couple of weeks of a league... and you see TFT moderation banning (https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3389989) people for all sorts of wacky reasons other than what we all think and hope they are doing (keeping BOT'ers, RMT'ers, Scammers away)...

Uffff... the future sure looks bleak.

As many people already know there's a few players who sit on a ridiculous amount of mirrors, and keeping the prices high by artificially create scarcity.

I barely know anyone that haven't RMT:d this league. Truth is, POE has become borderline Pay2Win. A solution might be to make mirror of kalandra expire 11 days after being picked up. This would force use and circulation, what do you think?

I do have to warn you. Be careful. People will try to bait and troll. I think this post is important. Extremely important to be honest.

It feels like GGG needs to take a desperate measure and remove the Mirror of Kalandra until they can improve trading in general.

That right there is exactly the thing at the core of the problem. GGG NEEDS to improve trading! This isn't even a question anymore. They have refused to do so for so long now that TFT has done it for them, and because TFT has done it for them they have amassed such an unimaginably massive following that they aren't just about to have complete economic control over the game, they already do.

This power could easily be taken away from them in one fell swoop with the implementation of a trading system better then what TFT has created. If they did that then nobody would need to tab out to discord (or a janky website) for their trades anymore so nobody would. TFT's monopolistic empire would crumble in an instant, the gap between the haves and the have-nots would shrink immensely, the game would see a massive spike in new player retention from people who only play long enough to discover that the game forces you onto a website for half your playtime and would see an even bigger spike in returning players who have vowed never to return until GGG opens their eyes and implements a trade system that actually feels like it belongs in a game that still gets updated in 2023 rather then one that feels like its from the 90's.

If you want trade in the game then put it IN the game, not on a website! If you don't want trade in the game, remove it from the game entirely and get rid of the portion of the accessible API that allowed the creation of a third party trade site in the first place (poe.trade). You don't get to have your cake and eat it too, as the saying goes.

remove the Mirror of Kalandra

Do it.
Innocence forgives you
If you go with the concept of supply&demand to justify limiting a resource, you also have to go with demand&supply if certain individuals start to limit the same resource additionally.

actual Orbdroprate =
dead orbs in stashes divided by active playernumbers plus intented* orbdroprate

*money is worthless if only banks are allowed to have it.
"Trading" is the wrong word for that.

Mirror goes the way of the Eternal Orb...forever lost into the ether.

For that matter, remove 90% of the rest of currencies as well and just move everything to a crafting bench that operates using about 5 different currencies.

This was GGG's complete misunderstanding of "gold" when they did that Ruthless with Gold event. Gold (central currency) cannot coexist with other currencies: otherwise it just fits itself into the already existing currency.

You need to REMOVE the rest of the currency items, and create a central currency for it to work. And it WILL work. If everything was in Chaos Orbs, and crafting (non-league crafting) was all done in varying amounts of chaos orbs much of these issues would disappear.

We would definitely need different types of chaos orb stacks though: like a single currency that is 100 chaos orbs (like a chaos bar or something). It can't be a separate currency item, but rather just a bigger single stack of the same currency. (think a $1 bill and a $100 bill; they will ALWAYS hold their relational value because they are part of the same currency system).

You're asking them to remove the OG most iconic item in the game that represents the Path of exile logo itself?

Good luck with that..
Exalted orbs only became valuable after bench crafting was introduced in the forsaken masters expansion in 2014, because they were used in the meta crafting recipes.

Mirror of Kalandra has been around since closed beta and is unarguably the most iconic item in the game. The path of exile logo IS the mirror, in case you haven't noticed.

But again, it is pointless to argue. Comments like this only show how little you understand the core philosophy behind this game.
