Duelist mage vs witch

As you might already know("no gender selection" topic) I can't play a female character in RPGs because it breaks the immersion...so I made a duelist mage using wands, and passives going into critical spell rating and critical spell damage multiplier.

So far I'm very happy with the result, especially when using cold snap.
This passive networking system you created is quite ingenious, I feared that fixed character selection would be a problem but so far this is the best mage I had in any RPG. Everything looks pretty great.

But what does the duelist lose by not being a witch who was suppose to specialize in magic as indicated in the character selection screen?

Another question, item rarity gem doesn't increase the percentage in character-->loot statistic, this is because..?

P.S.
You should really make this game not free-to-play, if I could I would already purchase the pre-order(in the range of 30-40 euros)...and many people pre-ordering would give you money to do voice-acting, turning animations for large creatures and other enhancements..like this game did.

Oh, and could you add words "area spell" in such spells(to conform with passive skill description) in skill gem description so there is no confusion.

Speaking of spells, you can't use non-projectional spells like cold snap to target enemies unless you are in a line of sight or you engage them already, is this intended design or just beta?

I'm not sure I would agree with that if it is the former, in Titan Quest if you saw an enemy 3 levels down(practically in another area) you could use spells. That was part of the fun by being a mage.

Because it only increases the rarity of items found when killing a monster with the specific skill the gem is linked to.
Disregard witches, aquire currency.
And have you read anywhere on the forum about spell range issue?
The biggest change between witch and duelist is late game skills that you may not have the int to max out. Alittle lame to me at the moment since some of the best support gems for spells happen to be dex based.

I think everything will be sorted out more as it goes, but for right now class definition is fairly loose.

Well, lets hope they keep it that way and add even more flexibility since the genders are tethered to classes.

That is really the opposite of what they need to do. They need to increase the difference between classes.

If you want to play a duelist mage (why didn’t you choose the Templar?) that’s fine but you have to understand that the duelist mage will never be as powerful as a witch, Templar or dex/intel classes in casting spells. The duelist cn be an effective dual wandist though.

Because his look is not appealing to me.

All I'm trying to say is that this might be an opportunity to introduce some system which would compensate for fixed genders and visuals of characters so that customization would be greater.

Why not institute perks(2-3) like in Fallout New Vegas upon creating your character so each character can excel at something you want him to excel at so you don't get constricted by the look or gender of the characters?

Surely, more customization is always better.

There isn't going to be a gender option for the game for quite some time (if ever) there have been numerous posts about this from the dev's stating they simply do not have the resources to devote to making new models/animations for each class. Beyond that, a duelist witch won't work. You won't be able to raise your int high enough to be viable past Cruel I'd say, if that. Even if you dump all of your levels into int, the % you receive back will be abysmal.

Similarly, you can't make a witch viable at mid/high levels using a 2h mace.

Happy hunting/fishing
Well, the easiest way to fix this would be to just change the face/head of the templar so he is a young dude, like an apprentice/adept.

Then I would have no problem in selecting it as a mage.

There is a reason why a male mage in Diablo 3 looks like he does...
