purple exploding crystals mod (remove or make more visual imparing)
9 out of 10 deaths i have are because of this stupid mechanic. when you notice them its usually to late.
i see this mechanic as reflect back in the days where it was just a matter of time before it kills you. there is no fun or challenge involved in this at all. mandatory reading of mods is just not good at all. it needs to be visible from the monsters when you see them. i come to a point where i litteraly lost fun playing POE because of this mod and decided to quit untill this is removed or more visual impared. i remember it used to have a high pitch sound that warns you but that seems to be removed making it harder to detect. i play HC only so this mod has a huge impact for me. meanwhile i guess i shall explore other games as i do not enjoy playing sc. fingers crossed something will be done about this because POE is/was my favourite game of all times for many years. but this mechanic makes it a waste of my time as i cannot progress because of it with the time i have to spend on video games. :( Last bumped on Jul 9, 2023, 4:38:02 PM

I finally realized why people usually don't notice it until it's too late. Low visibility is only half of it, but it's that in combination with the crystals spawning under your character that makes dangerous. When people play the game, they almost never look at their character. They look at mobs or the direction they're traveling.
I don't have data, but if you look at what kills people the most, I bet it's mechanics that spawn on the player. |

I finally managed to convince my boyfriend to get back into PoE (and he's advanced further in the game than he's ever done in the past), and one thing that kills him frequently are the crystals.
Between his ADHD unable to let him focus on everything at once, the combined noise both our builds attacking drowning out the sounds of them spawning, and him flicker striking, it's extremely difficult to identify such hazards. I have the benefit of being a summoner so I can see hazards coming from a mile away, but if they're centered on him while he's flashing about at rapid speed, I can't help him. PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.
Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build! And the winds will cry / and many men will die / and all the waves will bow down / to the Loreley |

I lost my Saboteur at #1 HC ruthless ladder last week because of these crystals - low risk t4 map, no crazy mods, hp didn't budge a pixel while fighting the mob. Little did I know in all the mine chaos that a full stack of little crystal were below my feet.
The mob died, I glanced over for a second to click level up on my gem and my hp went from 100% to 0%. No chance to react. No feedback at all from the game. I'm a cautious player, I know my defensive layers, I do make stupid mistakes and lose the odd character but this was above and beyond any HC death I've had since playing HC in Diablo 23 years ago. |

Yeah, they really suck and I usually only notice them after they went off unless I'm running around painting with pruple crystal but I usually play melee or self cast and stand still a lot.
I don't get it. It took them years to nerf the volatile effect into something that's clearly visible and slow enough that a grandma could shuffle out of it and it annoys the zoomers because it's a "long" area denial. Then this crap gets introduced. These crystals are often very stealthy in the midst of battle and seem to shotgun and all go off on monster death. I think they have a little charge up animation but it's not enough to notice and react to it. Just remove this mod, there's enough similar stuff in the game that works better. Or at least have them cascade somewhat slowly. Like corpse explosion. ... is not a troll

"it was just a matter of time before it kills you" is still a thing and has been for many years. It's the reason I left HC. You can have the best setup possible and eventually probability will strike.
It could take weeks or a year but eventually the right numerical pattern will happen and you die. That's why I call this game a stat smasher. It wasn't always, but it is now. I've yet to actually die to the crystals in any league but I've also yet to see them before they explode. It sounds a bit odd but I always have forward momentum and never dash back to a spot I recently was at. This technique I just do from playing seems to keep me safe. Oh and banning melee builds since the Fortify changes helps. "Never trust floating women." -Officer Kirac

Just picking this thread so i don't open another. Plz remove this mechanic already, all my HC characters die to this mechanic, especially if playing melee.Playing Boneshatter for example my attention is always on incoming projectijles or mobs,I cant be expected to always be looking at my feet while trying not to get offscreened by some other BS. Visibility is already bad in POE with too much stuff going on but this is just sadistic and uncalled for.
