Someone explain whats the point of selfcast currently

Long time player here, ive seen it all but the current state of the spell and skill meta is just disgustingly boring and sad.

Everything has been nerfed to death because they seem to nerf around wormhead empyrian and other pobwarlords that play 22 hour a day.

You wanna play xyz spell? Sure, but make sure u throw traps that spawn totems that spawn minions that explode and cast your spell on death.

^ is just an overexaggerated example but you get the point.

I can only imagine a new player starting this game seeing firestorm for example thinking, wow thats a cool spell.. just to get stomped in maps later because he does 0 damage if he is not using the spell with some kind of trigger in form of traps mines totems or whatever.

The gap between selfcast and triggered spells is just so huge and this post will get so much hate probably because everyone seems to love the meta, but i dont.

Yeah, self cast (with a few exceptions) and melee (with a few exceptions) are in a bad spot. They're a little bit better off this league, as you can get some pretty dope weapons.

If you are looking for things that selfcast, or any non meta playstyle really, has that give's it an edge over the meta builds then the answer is no, it doesn't. Meta builds are meta because they are strong and don't require any brains to make or play. Non meta stuff can be strong as well but it always requires a brain to make and play so most people think its weak.

if by brain you mean 10x, 50x the investment then yeah.

No i actually mean brain. Has nothing to do with investment. Meta builds are based on strong skills/interactions but not all strong skills/interactions become meta. There is a lot of stuff going under the radar, sometimes even for several leagues, the current one proves that like no other.
