Therion, Beast of the Caverns

Is it just me, or that boss is much more overtuned compared to all other bosses?
Not only it has long range and AoE attacks, it also enrages at 50% hp, and gain something like 150% mov speed, so unless u can kit it arround some ledge, you are good as dead.

Yeah me and my wife ran into him in act 1, took us like an hour to kill it. We wondered if it was a bug encounter and shouldn't of showed up until maps or something. It dropped nothing and no achievement.

Well they already kinda joked they nabbed league names from metal band names and there is a Vaal boss called Cintiq (a super popular brand of touch screen art monitor/tablet -- i wonder how that one happened) so honestly it isn't even vaguely surprising.

Well, it's a proper if redundant name, considering that Therion is just Greek for "beast".
But, coincidentally, there's also a software called Therion: "Therion is free and open-source cave surveying software designed to process survey data, generate maps and 3D models of caves,... " (Wikipedia)
"Therion, Beast of the Caverns" I wonder if that's the code name for one of their releases.

Yeah i dont know if this boss's mods change since it doesnt list anything but I've had at least one that I could do NO damage to. Fought him for ten minutes without ever seeing its life bar tick. Other ones are still way too strong and the fight takes way too long.

I fought this boss in Act 6 Riverways. It might have gone easier had I killed Ryslatha first, as maintaining flask charges is always an issue with maxed out Crucible packs to begin with. As was, I had prepped the spawn area with plenty of corpses to detonate, having lured the local wildlife in from outside the immediate area.

That done, once I charged the Crucible, I fled, chucking some Lightning Traps behind me to soften up the inevitable meth amped mobs, then, once I got my bearings on what I was dealing with, I swept in and out of the area, exploding corpses to weaken the mobs that didn't have regen.

Of course, all this time, I'm having to dodge the whole pack, including Therion, whose abilities were a complete mystery to me. Gradually, I whittled the pack down, running into the woods to get flask fills when necessary (often, with DOT mobs), until it was just Therion, myself, and my Stone Golem meatshield.

That fight was never not scary, but as I learned his moves, I could get in and knife him with Viper Strike, Flame dashing through him when he was winding up to do something ugly. If things got too hot, I'd let him focus on Rocky while I cursed him and whaled away with Frostblades.

Then, of course, just when things were going smoothly, he reached 50% and enraged. However, just like any other boss, he has a pattern, and I was able to exploit it to take him down, with no deaths (though several close calls!)

Would I want to do that all day? I certainly hope not! But it was a memorable fight, and very satisfying to win. =^[.]^=

Had that issue with Scourge bosses.

I just encountered this on a Tier 16 map with my Righteous Fire build. Took forever to melt him to 50%, then he enrages. Now he just straight up one shots me with a slam he charges up for .1 seconds. GGG sure does love melee characters. I don't know how he could possibly be killed by another other than kiting.

Met him again in Act 10 Control Blocks. Died three times. The hit-and-run tactics which worked in Riverways simply didn't apply in cramped conditions, so I took the L. =-[.]-=
