Melee and melee totems
" If that's where you stopped reading, why did you bother replying? |

" If you wanna die on that hill, fine by me but go and die alone would ya? GGG and critical thinking, don't make me laugh. Even if 1% of players play melee they won't give a shit. Not like i don't want to be free of those totems but i have less than zero trust that GGG manages to pull that off without costing us ~30% damage. And if i have to choose between pressing two buttons for 30% damage or just nothing, i'd rather have the former. People kept bitching about fortify being abused by casters, where did it get us? People kept bitching about needing explody chest for clear on melee? What happened? People complained about Threshold jewels being a bandaid, result? Doesn't take a master at pattern recognition to realise where this will get us. |

" Pretty accurate. I want to see it as a thought exercise. GGG gives melee things that might be good and revitalize it, sets the opportunity cost at next to nothing for spell/proj builds, and then removes it because the screen clearing maps per minute builds they hate use it better. So I want to see which they start to comprehensively shaft between spells and proj after melee becomes a (more) fringe and prohibitive playstyle, if they do. You know, since it's their design choices that have lead the game to it's current state. Clearly they either think melee was a massive part of the problem or it is in a state they believe is healthy. I want to see the natural progression of that logic to the other archetypes. Last edited by Aesthetic_Curse#7301 on Apr 6, 2023, 4:44:02 PM

I agree it's lame, but melee at this point isn't bringing anything special to the table, you could play lightning tendrils instead of cleave for all the difference it makes, so no big loss.
Speaking of Stockholm design, wouldn't mind if they removed Abyssus too while they're at it. Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

I see everyone agrees that totem play is no fun after years. Lack of trust on GGG balance leads to not wanting them to do anything for this matter.
Pretty wild, even the issue is super easy to identify and fix, still nothing will be done. Having hard time to believe poe2 brings anything new to table either. |

I'm returning to melee this league. I'm just gonna use Dawnstrider and call it a day.

" Constantly complaining that melee is bad while simultanously asking for it to be drastically nerfed... you honestly don't make any sense at all.. |
|
" My biggest complaint about melee is that it feels ancient, and that a lot of the endgame content is designed so your dps windows are really tiny, and, as noted in the thread that doing some things can feel mandatory. To clarify a bit on the last one, it's things like needing attack speed to make things snappy, which is tied to animations, but what they can do with animation timings is now limited, because they added animation canceling. Even if they fixed the numbers (which I'll note that already can be good if you're using some of the popular crutches), melee would still be ass and I wouldn't be happy with it. Maybe they can do something about it in PoE2, they have more time to do things properly there and don't have to try and squeeze things in between leagues, and I don't care about any bandaids they might slap on it until then. If I waited this long I can wait some more. Does that make more sense? I totally agree. I still like playing melee but i hate that in every build i have to use these totems.
I do not agree though that only removing them solves the issue but as long as they exist in this way, they cant buff melee on other parts obviously. www.twitch.tv/marloss_live

Talking about remaking core archetypes right before the sequel launches is silly.
