Melee and melee totems

I bet this topic has reached to your ears for years now. State of melee has been in dark place for long time. Overtime melee has become stale and boring and your data analytic results of 10% only play melee is your reason to not do anything about it, even it is the cause of it happening. It's like never ending, self feeding loop to the end of melee.

Simple fix to bring even spark of hope to play melee is to remove mandatory melee totem buffs meta. "I want to play melee, not totem caster..." but everything is build around having totems up. Simple question is.. WHY? Why i must keep totems up to deal damage as "INSERT melee gem"?

Make melee fun and viable playstyle without totems.

Maximum number of totems is 0, gain x amount of dmg or survivability. Im not smartest slayer in the town, but its very easy fix.

Ya its really annoying. and they keep point starving melee. I still cannot fathom why they added an extra node in the fortify wheel. Then they just gutted the rampart wheel. Its pretty sad when you have to waste skill points to get the panopticon wheel so you can get totems linger mastery. 6 skill points just so you dont have to constantly cast totems while bossing.

one thing i do like about the totem stuff is that there is an extra upgrade once you start to scale endgame when you get phantasmal ancestral protector. It just gives you 1 more thing to dream about finding or buy.

I've said for years that Totems should be remade into Ancestral Spirits. They just surround your character and attack nearby enemies while also giving you a buff. Don't know need to constantly cast it, don't need to watch it die in it's same animation of it being summoned, don't need to invest tons of points to keep it alive or grab a mastery to make them work.

Why not both o-o anything involving spirits sounds fun
Innocence forgives you
I was surprised as a non melee player how socket starved melee builds are. Like some build run out of buttons because of all the things. And for really silly dps.

Nothing seems consistent looking at it from the outside.

Then accuracy is also a thing that is really strange.

Melee needs an overhaul.

Mirage Archer ironically would make more sense as a melee support than an archer one. It would even be a call back to old Haku missions where you carried the ancestor on your back.
Just going to point this out here, but your consequent insistance on making totems non mandatory will only lead to melee builds having 20% less damage and 20% less attack speed in the end. You won't get any compensation for their removal.
Agreed. EVERY past instance of "we felt x was mandatory for y" was ALWAYS followed by "so we nuked x from orbit" and NEVER followed by "here is z instead."

Yes. Give me 20% less. What other archetype locks 20% of potential damage for a main skill behind another active skill? I'd be more than happy to die on that hill. Maybe if <8% of the playerbase played melee GGG would do some critical thinking and say "hmm, but *why* is that the case?"

I was a melee player once. Then I realized "why play something I'm going to have to invest 10-20 divines worth of gear for similar returns to a 3 divine TR build"

Then I refused to play TR because the gameplay is not fun to me, and I started running silly group play to fund trigger builds that make me giggle when I spin and get to watch herald explosions trail off screen like all the cool kids with their spells and bows.

Umm... if you are fine with 20% less... just don't use the totems? Problem solved?
