Shock nova ring doesn't always shock with three dragons

"
Essentially all it does is mean your lightning damage is now enabled for freeze calculations

Is the ring 'lightning damage'?

I think the guy above thinks its a hit that guarantees 100% chance for a damage type to proc an ailment, which requires fire damage to be true to proc this affect in the ring with Three Dragons equipped.

I think the gem is ambiguous enough to be either an AoE debuff, with the 'always' modifier, that ignores damage types, or is a damage type that guarantees shock regardless of any items (ie, 'always'), or it is a lightning damage that guarantees 100% ailment debuff, such that lightning damage guarantees a freeze with Three Dragons.

Three Dragons affects 'lightning damage' and 'ring always shocks'. How does this apply then?

The more I read the gem description, the less I feel like I understand how the gem is supposed to work.

That is what the gem itself says, in the green text describing the behavior of the skill itself.

"
Casts a ring of Lightning around you, followed by a larger Lightning nova. Each effect hits enemies caught in their area with Lightning Damage.

"Casts a ring of Lightning around you [which] hits enemies caught in [its] area with Lightning damage."
Shock Nova casts a ring around you and a larger nova that extends out from you, both of which can hit enemies and do lightning damage by default.

Shock Nova's ring always shocks.
+
Lightning damage cannot shock while wearing Three Dragons.
=
Shock Nova never shocks with lightning damage while wearing Three Dragons, but the ring always shocks otherwise.

It's...really not that complicated.

Well he's right and your simply wrong.

Your reading things in the skills decription that simply do not exist.
"An it harm none, do what you will"
In PoE terminology, "always" means "100% chance to." OP is reading too much into "always."
its more OP doesn't know how shock is calculated, it still always shocks after you put three dragons on it just doesn't have any damage of the right type anymore.

Always kinda frustrating when you get help questions like this and the right answer immediately gets dumped on the poster but they then insist on arguing lmao sure we might not always be right but I think there are like 6 right answers from different posters in here already.
