ES (with EB) is more superior than mana from design PoV

is it rly a big deal? you lose your hat in order to cast spells for 'free'?
ive just had a look over my current spell casters, most of them have 2 passives points spent grabbing 1 mana notable. one of them has 5 points one of them has 0. they all fuel off a tiny slither of total mana, with the hats mana reserve i might be able to fit in another aura or at least a herald, but only with that hat, with actual eb i wouldnt be able to fit anything in without a lot of other reserve investment. so its cost me ~2 passive points to fuel on mana, but i have about 8k-15k energy shield on these builds, so i go eb and what? run the aura that gives me 15k life? is this really overpowered? dont get me wrong, i see that its strong, i dont see that its mageblood or squire strong, i dont see any reason i would use it on any current build i have or have had in the past few years. i feel like you need to go mom, then you can actually still invest in your es and get that defensive pool out of it, but you are now investing into flat numbers, increases and sustain methods for 2 separate pools which feels inherently less efficient than investing into growing and sustaining 1 and when you kind of look at mana as this other pool you have to sustain and your build is functioning on 2 passive points chucked into it... i see why people do it, the hat itself is strong, u got the reserve and the feast stuff going on with it. im not saying its bad but i dont feel any pressure from its existence when i think about building characters, and ive never felt the need to use eb since what i still call its 'nerf', because es protecting mana imo was a straight up nerf turning a keystone from one i used on maybe half my casters to something i literally have never used in whatever its been? 6 years? 7 years? i dunno, feels like a long time since they nerfed eb. to me they killed it, they killed eb, not using it once? its dead as far as im concerned. the hat actually makes the first case ive seen where id even consider it. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

" Ur so wrong, mana needs buffs. |
|
" You cast your spells for free and get 1.5 extra auras, don't leave the auras out or it doesn't make sense. Auras are about the strongest thing in the game right now fitting in an extra one, especially if you have aura effect is absolutely enormous. " Yes, but for as long as there're comfortable ways to avoid using mana, mana isn't getting buffed. First, everyone needs to suffer through having to play mana for one league, and then it can get buffed. So, EB + diadem need a nerf. Also, blood magic, and especially lifetap, need to get a much higher multiplier. Last edited by Xyel#0284 on Feb 15, 2023, 4:44:07 PM

" yeah the hats good, the extra aura is a big deal with the hat. still for me im looking at ci hit pools and chaos immune, and im not feeling any desire to change any ci build i have to that hat. so yeah, im with u its strong, its a thing. but does it need nerfed? if its too common maybe it needs to be more chase? is it out of line with other extremely desirable uniques? its not mageblood imo. i think as long as its rarity is appropriate personally im fine with the item existing. but eb in general? theres people making a case for CI needing a nerf, and then theres other people saying theyre upset because grace + determ are mandatory, which says armour and evasion are being used and actually feeling rewarding to the point of mandatory in a lot of peoples current meta though processes. so weve got alternatives to eb being seen as extremely powerful, both from alternate uses for energy shield and from armour/evasion. i just find it odd, ive never heard people claiming eb is too powerful before and i havent even seen a reason to use it in the last 7+ years. im using ci, low life, armour and evasion all the time. " EB itself doesn't need a nerf. I tried using EB on its own with some ranger and shadow builds and it felt bad without the hat, to the point where I decided to invest into a mana wheel on the tree instead since I found myself using more points on ES wheels. That and adding some ES-based armor. Blood Magic needs a major buff it sucks so bad and since the last recent reservation nerfs (to life as well) giving up your whole mana pool for 1 free aura isn't worth it. The amount of extra life you get from BM too doesn't make up for the amount of life reserved to get a normal amount of auras back. |

The problem here is that nothing else in POE works as it should.
MR was nerfed a long time ago to stop aurabots, which led to the banalization of defensive auras, so they buffed those auras, and with the arrival of clusters it created a monster that not only stacked auras but dealt billions of DPS. so tey nerf it again. ES and HP were RIDICULOUSLY nerfed to prevent static builds which made builds like Archimage + MindOverMater extremely relevant so they ABSOLUTELY nerfed everything in mana including the base cost of many skills and ABSURDLY rising the percentage gain of support gems. That's the problem with EVERYTHING tencent gets their hands on. they follow the "Gostcrawler" mentality, the old way of a good MMO was to have a solid base and add periodic content that would progress the story, BUT that requires talent, good writers and good ludo narrative that is able to marry the gameplay with the lore . however it is much cheaper just to change parameters and "FORCE" a meta forcing everyone to change all the time thus creating a false sense of renewal when in reality the game does not bring ANYTHING REALLY new for a LONG time Last edited by fredjesus1#3795 on Feb 16, 2023, 8:43:33 AM

" The point is that, instead of making QoL changes and adding new features to the game as was done pre-tencent, the game now just recycles content and makes structural changes, these changes create problems, which force new changes that create even more problems and so we are in a destructive cycle that is honestly seen in EVERY game that Tencent has got its hands on |

its got nothing to do with tencent, they have 0 influence on gggs designs in these areas and nothing has changed since they bought shares.

" its the hat, EB itself is generally balanced by its opportunity cost but devouring diadem fits too well with how we are pushed to play really. Also players actually hate dealing with mana, probably because it always feels like your leaving stuff on the table. |
