[HC] Build issue, could not kill inifinite Hunger, Vort=xc occultist

Hello,

I play in hardcore, a vortex occultist, lily's build.
there is my POB : https://pastebin.com/fiRT17vB

I died this league to Infinite Hunger. 1st time I go that far in the game.

My issue is I cannot damage it. After I died, I tried doing it in standard, but same I could not kill infinite Hunger, after 6 portal.

What I am missing here ?

Could one of the "expert" here look at my build and see what am I missing ?
What should I have done to improve my gear ?
What DPS should I aim for to do Infinite Hunger ?

thank you for you help !!!

Sorry for your loss, lol. I'm not an expert on that kind of build so I won't go over what you could have done I'll leave that for someone that knows the build.

I will say this now though, You have a character in standard that you can now practice those boss fights with. So if you decide to get there again on another HC character at least now you will be able to test the fight (try get same stats as new character) and see if you can dmg/fight him before you do it in HC.

You'll see a lot of HC players do that exact thing just so they don't go in and die and unneeded death. Considering this is the as far as you've made it before that's quite an achievement in itself in HC. (A lot of people die in the acts)
yeah, I want to practice Infinite Hunger boss, since I am there with this char, and I can get invitation easily...

But I keep on dying to it, without understanding why...
Looks like I m not doing enough DPS... but not sure on how to improve my dps..

or maybe Infinite Hunger is not for that char ? or at least, not as soon as you arrive maps T12.

just would like to understand how guys kill it, in SC or HC, with a vortex build, what kind of dps should I be looking at ?

thank you :)

How far are you getting in the fight? Most fights can be done with barely any dps as long as you understand the mechanics and can avoid stuff that kills you.

If you don't kill Infinite Hunger fast enough, he will "drag you under" aka he will fill the entire arena with goo, dragging you into it and you will be moved to different location. Here, your goal is to find your way back to the arena. They way you do this is carefully looking at what direction the goo is "flowing" and following the flow until you get to a portal that leads back to the arena. There you will fight him again, and yet again, if you don't kill him fast enough, he will drag you under again and this repeats until you kill him. I'm not sure, but I think he will drag you under a maximum of 3 times, but I could be wrong as I usually kill him fast enough to not drag me under.
So I see a few issues with your build:

1) You are way overcapped on some resistances (cold and even lightning). Being overcapped normally isn't a bad thing but you have a lot of bad pieces just to get fire res to cap. I would farm Harvest a bit for some juice and use it to swap some resistances on your gear. The aim should be to make the weakest pieces not necessary so that you can get much better pieces in those slots (that don't need res).

2) You have -19 chaos res and ~8k armour. All of Infinite Hunger's attacks do physical and chaos damage. None of them do elemental damage. So your capped res doesn't help you at all here. Part of the problem is that only your helm has any armour on it at all (once again, this goes back to being married to certain bad pieces). So Determination alone here doesn't help. Your armour is slightly better with the flasks up but you cannot expect to maintain any kind of uptime on them in this fight.

3) Shield charging is nice but while your gear is weak, you may be better served with a second weapon that's similar to your first. This is a very noticeable bump in damage. If you really can't give up the shield mapping, at the very least, I would item swap to a second weapon just for the fight.

As a miscellaneous: If you are using Arcanist Brand for curses only, don't level the brand past level 1. The only thing higher levels do is jack up the mana cost. As yours is L20, I would vendor it with a GCP so that it becomes a 1/20 and then leave it at L1. The 20 quality will make it better than a new gem.
