My first and last impressions of PoE, and what needs to change for this game to be fun.

This is good feedback. Thank you for taking the time and effort.

Sorry about your number two problem in number six. I gots the Crohn's; I feel your pain, both with regularity and irregularity. Hey, if you can't laugh about shit, you'll just end up crying about it. Dignity is an illusion, Exile.

I don't know how the in-game moderators operate (beyond the fact that they probably don't monitor the chat directly; it's all down to reports -- which is deeeeeeply problematic given it misses context a lot of the time), but yeah, best just to accept it's a broken system now and stick to private interactions.

I'm biased as fuck but Global Chat used to be a lot of fun when we volunteer moderators were on duty. We were allowed to swear, chat, help people. Mutes were pretty infrequent. Then again, the game populace could be as low as 50 people then and everyone in the game had paid to be there, so I might as well be talking about a different game altogether. One a lot of people unhappy with the current state of PoE would, I think, have quite liked. Even with the desync, lack of trade window and only two acts.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

just agree. just a total agree.

they have to normalize" the game, away from total automization and min-max scaling of basically everything.

a build for me is: using a skill, having 1-2 buttons to compliment.

whats a build in tis game: pick a movement skill, add cast on trigger whatever on it, pick a spell to be cast on it, the pick gear which transforms dmg from frost, to selffreeze to selfpoison so you have 0.15 attacksspeed trigger, and then use 100 stacks selfpoison castspeed/attackspeed meta gear to transform your build into what exactly? a wirwind dagger wielding fireball casting witch of some sort.

this whole game is just an excel tab with graphics, nothing to "play" - playing means actually playing the game, choosing which enemy to kill first, evade attacks etc.

i know many find diablo 3 shit, but the gameplay IS what i consider a normal "GAME" play, and not some kind of automated cyclone CoC spellcaster spammer.

this stuff would be considered an exploit in really every other game i know.

this game however is not only allowing this, its designed, balanced and based around this stuff.

the preview i saw of PoE 2.0 really let me ask, if they are playing another game, and how they actually want people that are currently "rolf-coptering" content to start off in PoE 2.0 ? kill all old chars?

theres a lot of balance migration to do, before the game actually plays like the footage seens for PoE 2.0
Have you ever tried cold or chaos dots? These builds use 3 active skills - vortex, creeping frost and cold snap; blight, essence drain and contagion. It is exactly what you are looking for. It has a theme, it fits the character archetype and you don't spam a single skill all the time. Of course, to do this first you have to actually look up builds instead of complaining.
I agree with most things.
This game is irritating and poorly made in many ways, it lacks polish not only in the code, but in GGG's own philosophies.

I don't know the logic of being able to kill an uber boss in 1s, I mean, what's the use of spending resources on designing mechanics, boss stages, if the boss or the mechanic can be completely trivialized?

PoE never left the BETA state, and apparently PoE2 will be exactly the same.
just imagine playing a spell with bow and quiver...

balance team is OP.

"poopsock league" isn't fun.

it throws rewards left and right after you, there is no challenge while progressing and no feeling of rewards cause drops are meaningless, you only feel rewarded if the game drops more than you saw professional streamers having dropped on their runs.

it indeed breeds entitled players who naturally want more and more, totally ignoring what would make them feel rewarded (scarcity of drops).

ruthless mode is different, there are more gamers playing it and the overal (and small) community is much nicer.

Didn't play Ruthless myself, but from what others posted about it, I don't understand how it can help with problems listed by OP, which I do agree with.

Without Ruthless, you hit a wall in maps or higher maps (unless using known extra strong build), and have to slowly grind resources to progress. But at least by then you have access to all skill gems and some items to try and solve your problems.

In Ruthless, you hit a wall in Act 1, and have to slowly grind resources to progress. With your 1 skill gem with 1 support, and a bunch of normal rarity items. So it is same play, but on different and decrepit stage.

Maybe I'm mistaken about Ruthless, but if it works like above, why play it? At least you get to see more shiny things with "usual" progression league, before frustration rolls in.
another one.
dude you play for some month, did not even understand the game and beg for changes.
what build has struggles with hitting maps? the whole ruthless community started maps on a 2 link (if they had some luck) or like me wih no links, resists at 20.
what wall do you hit? if you dont play a bow waring es stacking marouder with traps you wont "hit a wall" with your build.
i rly, rly dont understand all this "this game is so hard" threads because it simply isnt. it was at some point ut your bathing in currency this days in core. how can anyone not be able to progress fast?

EDIT: to the links: it will get reworked with poe2 btw. thats a core feature of poe2 and well known.

for the map mods, you have to deal with it but it does not matter. reroll them, its for free anyway. whats a chaos when exarch gives you 30 per map?

you're basically right. and you see less content as a average player.

for me, the advantage is in a more linear progression. i don't rush for red maps in 2 days and stay there for another 11 weeks. there is just not enough content in the endgame to justify that.

ruthless removed all bloat and moved the gameplay back to yellow maps where it ever where when it made sense for so many currency items to exist in the first place.

have you ever been excited to find a whetstone or a glassblowers bouble? in ruthless, you are.

in poopsock league, nobody would notice if they removed 60% of all currency types cause finding them is no achievement/gratification or progress but just annoying fillers.
age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!
