Would you like for one of the new characters in PoE2 to have a fat body-type?

Your addiction to the Devil's Proof is impressive but tiresome, croc.

On my phone so thats all you get. Again, happy NY and all that.
The name says it all.
Berserker alredy is the fat archetype, with a fat D.

That being said, this isn't Netflix. Either there's a reason for it, such as Rog that eats all the metal he finds or Whakano that only shaves people and adds to himself, or it's pointless and nonsensical.

We literally spend the entire game running for hours on end. If you spend the same time running as your character, you would 100% look like one of the characters you play.

Also there's a thing called "immersion" and "realistic writing" that for some reason is vilified if you dare abide by the setting your game was created upon, and it's starting to get really tiresome to have it questioned with, seriously, inane suggestions. It's literally the reason i despise MMOs with their "costumes" that completely takes a dump on immersion, aesthetic and game feeling.

Ah yes, when you think something it’s because you’re presenting the internal logic of Wraeclast; when other people disagree it’s because they have an addiction.

Look man, I’m not here to “get” anything from you. This is a suggestions forum for GGG; changing your mind isn’t on the agenda. So if you want to discuss the topic by responding to things I actually say, great. If not, no worries, that’s fine too! What I normally do when I don’t have anything to contribute is to just…not contribute.

Dude, marauder is absolutely not built like a long distance runner. Extremely buff people also have famously bad stamina, cause guess what, exerting a lot of energy when your 300lbs takes a lot of effort whether or not your jacked or just big. Just watch any heavyweight MMA fight, those dudes are zombies if they make it to round3.

Also, your going to try to sit here and tell me you're worried about immersion when players can play as a robot skeleton cowboy-clown who is accompanied by ther lightning fast corgi, wields a carnival unicycle, has giant glowing butterfly wings, and has the super power to turn themself into a supersonic lawnmower... yeah... that's fine for immersion... but you make that same character fat, and "wHoaWHoAwHOaWAiT a MiNUte! WHaT abOuT mUH immErsIOn!?!?"
...
Really?

Eh, now you're talking about MTXes, which we're all fairly sure the NPCs can't see, else they'd have been fucking astounded at my old laser-beam-from-the-skies Diamond Kiwi.

So if you want an MTX that turns your character into a ThiccBoi or ThiccGrl, sure. GGG wouldn't have a leg to stand on given the examples you've just cited. They jumped that shark way back in beta and never looked back.

Now you only have one job: convince GGG it's worth their time and effort to bother. That a bodysize generally considered unsightly by long-standing Western traditions might be a real cashcow, pun intended.

Here's a tip for you: in China, girth is still considered a mark of good fortune and wealth. China just happens to be PoE's biggest domestic market. There MAY be some

Unfortunately for you, in most other cultures it's less a representation of good fortune and more, well, shortened lifespans and chronic health issues. Still, take another look at your examples and you'll see at least a few of them representing less an image of endurance more one of opulence and indulgence.

And as someone said, this isn't a simulator. And as someone ELSE indicated, if it were, all those Exiles doing little more than trading in their hideout would be far from svelte. So again, maybe you're onto something...

Or maybe this is just a different flavour of those 'why don't we have gender choices per class?' threads that invariably go nowhere. Maybe, maybe, maybe...

____

I just realised I didn't answer the question in the topic thread. Would I like one of the new characters to have a fat body-type? Yes, I would. But GGG would have to justify it very well else it'd just look like the video game version of tokenism and stunt casting. I'd love to see an 'Exile' kicked out of Oriath for being too fat. Really double down on the shitty nature of Theopolis even in the absence of Innocence's regime.

Or how about this?

After the Fall of Oriath and the purge of the good-for-nothing nobles, Oriath enters a new age of power thanks to the Exile showing them how easy it is to use virtue gems. You just ram 'em into your items and voila, superhuman awesomeness. Even your average Karui former slave can now live a life of luxury. Oriathans become exceedingly sedentary, and oh wait you've seen Wall-E right?

Yeah, that. Except instead of living on a spaceship, they exist on an idyllic island. That is, until Big Bad Two comes along and suddenly everyone has to fight again.

Time to get off that divan and use those gems for good old-fashioned mass destruction again, Sir Chonk.

Spoiler: this is why the rope breaks in the new character selection screen.

Why does everyone in PoE look like they just escaped from some sort of prison camp oh shit not supposed to ask that am I cough act 3 cough.

Real talk though, it seems GGG have decided the body shapes for Path of Exile '2' here and I don't see anyone you'd call 'fat'.

Then again, didn't they basically say the seven 'new' characters would just be future versions of the existing seven classes, and only really differentiated from them by way of new Ascendancies?

In other words, this was probably...never...ever...going to happen.

OH FUCKING WELL. ^_^

/thread, as far as I'm concerned.

final edit: holy *shit* that was quick. They are so watching this thread. Surprise, surprise -- discussing body types is a hot issue. Whodathunk.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

on the game: as previously mentioned lore pretty much excludes the notion of 'successful fat adventurer' due to cannibals and necessity to be mobile. survival of the fittest in its pure form.

btw humans actually CAN run for hours and hours, we are one of the few mammals that can do that due to very efficient cooling system we have. the moment we can no longer shed heat with sweat, we have to stop. thats why we have snow dog sleds - dogs cannot run for long in temperate climate but can easily do that in arctic/winter. again, cooling.

so POEs characters running everywhere is doable. but noone would believe that any of these men you depicted is capable of doing that. ergo: slow -> eaten.

ps. mma/lifters/bodybuilders are more likely than not more juiced than a pharmacy, that is also a form of illness. given how badly that lifestyle ends, i wouldnt mention that.
better example are football players. they are big and yet they run for 90+ mins straight, few times a week (+training sessions ofc). it is doable, even if you are 'big' from muscle and frame. but if you carry 20-40-60kg of inert mass..

slow -> eaten

yeap. interesting times it seems
Just for everyone's peace of mind, saw the original of Sid's post above and it wasn't slinging shit at fat people, just saying it's a medical condition, which it is.

On the topic of portly warriors, it can make sense in some circumstances, like being a bodyguard. If you have more mass you can swing a bigger weapon without being thrown off balance, and you can cover more of your client's body :)
Of course, you're supposed to keep training and maintain explosive strength and agility, like a sumo wrestler. Lower stamina isn't really a problem in that case because you aren't expected to run and fight for hours. A short scuffle is all you'll have to deal with and it isn't a bad idea to look more imposing, picking big guys and giving them big weapons just to look more intimidating was a thing historically.

In PoE setting, though, it makes no sense. Dunno what you'd even get fat on, it's well established in lore that roast rhoa is the 'foulest tasting fowl ever'.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.
