The shadow is a design disaster

dude u just need to drop ghost reaver, its garbage, its not supposed to be used on a dot melee build that has a hybrid hit pool of life and es. its a bad node and makes your es useless.

the whole synergy of evasion and energy shield is evasion giving your shield time to kick into recharge mode, its a sustain through recharge combo, ghost reaver disables your recharge, it literally disables the defense combo youve chosen to use.

You know, I've been turning this over and turns out that Witch is also a design disaster because taking chaos innoculation and eldritch battery will literally kill you. Witch is unplayable.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

The biggest problem with shadow melee is the fact that apart from poison abilities, there's so few dex based melee abilities that you can confortably scale with only green/blue gems.

All the melee support gems that are worth anything for melee are red. Forcing everybody to go into lower left part of the tree and limit the number of skills that a shadow can actually play with.

Why would you use just blue/green gems? Strength requirement is rarely an issue and rolling up to 4 off colors isn't too much work either, I can't think of many setups you would want to use on shadow that would require all red.

CI, technically, at the moment... is not part of the witch, it should be... but it isnt...

And yes, you could argue if CI was in the witch area that was a bit poor design, although not as bad as the shadow since its pretty clear from the text it will kill you if you use both both keystones while the shadow keystones don't give that impression that they are bad when used with the default skill at all.

My Assassin is very role adequate with poison Ethereal Knives.....very high damage with just one tap, always stealthed (phasing), smoke clouds, etc. It's not melee but it's possible to do DW daggers poison with something like Flicker Strike so i think you just don't know the game well enough coz it's fine.
