Hydrosphere strange interaction in group play

When trying to freeze Hydrosphere(even with a 100% crit rate) if another player attacks the Hydrosphere at the same time they can "steal" the "one hit a second" but it wont apply any ailment to the Hydrosphere. I was just wondering if it was the intended outcome because it seems to hurt Hydrosphere in group play.

I am also experiencing this issue. Hydrosphere is fun to play as a main skill, and this issue is making it really hard to enjoy group play.
