Last week of the Atlus Demon's Souls servers

Atlus are closing their Demon's Souls North American servers after the 31 of May exactly a week from now. So this is your last chance for some PvP and Coop. All world tendency are set to black! Umbasa
Ha ha, console gaming.

If my games suddenly lost a feature like that, I would be pissed.

Posted that thread a day too soon Atlus decided on Friday to extend the servers indefinitely. I wish they find a way to monetise the servers so they don't close it down later. Sell some crazy hats like TF2 if you have to I don't care!
Call it invetable fate for PC games too, I guess...

Most probably people will try to make security (vs video-game piracy) like in Diablo because it's pretty much perfect that way.

Fans will keep most of the PC games alive. You can easily find private servers for more than a decade old MMOs as well I don't think it's all that inevitable fate for PC games.

By the way... Diablo's security? There's a private server already on the works so I don't think that's all that good working solution.

Besides extreme security measures turn a lot more people away from the games than as much profit they should secure for the companies.

Memorable examples are the StarForce incidents. Ubisoft's support lines had pretty rough times back at those days mostly due they applied that to the very first waves of Prince of Persia 3: The Two Thrones copies.

It's harder to make an emulator for servers than crack the game right?

It's still pretty powerful security and it's quite profitable one for developers too (after all they can close it up if they make another sequel, just like that). No more classic gamers, having nostalgia about game and playing them again.

You can disband any server which is unofficial, It's not easy to make one that's for sure.

It turns away people, yeah. But when cash comes to play, people are just pawns.
I'm yet to see a mainstream MMO which doesn't have at least one well playable and stable private server.

I don't know which is easier since I haven't done either. Sure it's heck of a job to make an emulator for the servers as well as cracking a game.

Sure they could be disbanded but just as torrent trackers... They can come back anytime under a new name. Achieved anything at all? Nope. Dumped a lot of money for nothing? Oh, crap.

So that's the reason behind why the developers and publishers don't really care about private servers.

Another is a massive amount of defects - badly maintained private servers however if you do take your time and dig into it a bit than you can find plenty of decent ones as well.

Why would they keep the Demon's Soul servers up when everyone moved on to Dark Souls ages ago?

What, there servers are up, and no one is playing the game?
