Poison stacking doesn't increase damage

I noticed that poison degeneration does not increase in speed as more stacks of poison are placed. If poison stacks why does this degenerate visible on their life bar not increase as more stacks are put?

Poison is a cumulatively stacking debuff. Each stack of poison remains present on the target dealing chaos damage over time until it runs its course. Poison has base duration 2 seconds. The number of stacks on the target depends on your attack speed.
