Standalone game client won't update anymore

Cannot update the game client since recently.
It's either 0 speed at all times or an error messages:
SSL connect error while downloading [file]
or connection timeout disconnected from patching server before update was complete

Tried to delete Path of Exile and install again, ended nowhere, now I gotta find a way to download not just a patch but the whole game.

I usually use VPN to play but I disabled it to no success, tried connecting through wi-fi shared from phone to eliminate provider issues and still can't update the game. League begins soon and I am afraid I won't even be able to play it!

Same problem. Noticed it yesterday (06.12) "SSL connect error while downloading...".

Tried reinstalling the game, there were a lot of similar error messages about different files, but with repeated attempts managed to finish installation and run the game.

Today (07.12) - same error message again, it shows the same file every time:
SSL connect error while downloading
https://patch.poecdn.com/3.19.2.4/PathOfExile.exe

Tried using VPN (ProtonVPN, recommended in another similar thread) and that solved the issue. Interesting thing is that VPN was only necessary to update the client, but not to run it, pretty weird.
