No way to close/exit the game with the mouse only

Hi there,

I’ve been having an on/off relationship with this game for more than 8 and-a-half years now and sadly only post here when I get annoyed by the stuff that remains in the game for a long time, or is there since its inception, and am on the verge of quitting again, staring at the screen stupefied.

Now to the point I'm addressing, what if my keyboard (or just the Esc key) stops responding – then there is NO way to exit or log off, since with the mouse - one can only click on the stuff in the UI that exists.
And the mouse-clickable button to log off or exit the game does not exist.

It should have been one of the first functions to be implemented on the UI.
And its like that since the beginning, now more than NINE years and countless millions of profit ago...

It did happen to me, to be fair, only once a few years back.
But, what is the deal here - is no one else bothered by that?

Regards.

sounds like you should try a controller

but anyway you can click on the ui to pop up the menu to quit. see if you can find it. that can be your own mini game.

Hi,

I’ve never been ok with a controller, and use fullscreen in general (so no “x” in the upper right corner to click).

As for your cryptic tip – I don’t see the UI element you said.
If you meant me to click on the UI element on the lower left (the big “arrow”) and then choose “options” to change the display to “windowed” and then click on the “x” in the upper right corner – thank you for the tip, if not – perhaps if you could explain what you mean it would be nice.

Even with that options “workaround” it still feels very sloppy on ggg’s part, especially at times when I’m so frustrated with the game in general. It comes and goes in phases, as I’ve mentioned in the original post.

Regards.
the fastest way to close the game is pressing alt+f4 on the keyboard.

if you're desperate and only want to use the mouse, you can try using the mouse driver setup to put this key combination on a mouse button.
age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!
I genuinely don't understand this thread. Path of Exile is designed to use a Mouse+Keyboard, not just a mouse. Why is it on the game to provide a solution to your weird keyboard hardware issues? If you were trying to play the game with a monitor that keeps switching off unexpectedly, is it also GGG's job to provide echolocation pings for every nearby enemy so that you can play blind?

If you're having this much trouble with your keyboard, buy a new keyboard. A basic USB keyboard costs like... six dollars, with shipping. If you only have one hand and just can't use a keyboard ever, then buying a fancy mouse and programming Alt-F4 into one of the side buttons should have been literally the first thing you did when you thought about getting into gaming.
The op posted a variety of good technical reasons why this is important, and didn't even include accessibility, and people are shitting on him?
There is a way to exit the game:

From graphics, enable windowed mode. In UI (under general), make sure "confine mouse to window" isn't selected.

Then you can click the "X" in the top right, or right click the window in the taskbar to close the application.

Welcome to path of exile, where quality of life is always several years away.
