So, it's late league now, anyone able to **Spoil** something for me about Kalandra??
|
I was really excited to see Kalandra featured as the main character in this league. I've played nearly every day since launch, with a couple breaks of a week or two in between. I am asking for spoilers at this point because I don't see the story progressing nor am I encountering any new mechanics or big baddies, or even hearing about them via content creators. Since I am asking for spoilers, feel free to close this if you hate spoilers or if you have a reply - feel free to DM me so the rest of the community can stay spoiler free. I am just at my wits' end on this one.
I have a problem: I never find new bosses/encounters from a new/current league or even know they exist until leagues later. It would be great if league announcements might let us know in advance if we are looking for a special new encounter - even if the delivery is vague in the Announcement Stream (and it should be! for fun! for the mystery, as long as there actually is one!). SO! The Spoiler I am begging for (feel free to DM me, again, cause spoilers) is WHERE IS THE KALANDRA FIGHT? Can we even fight her? What is the point of all her dialogue? She is getting madder and madder in her realm, she is going on about escape, she doesn't like me anymore - waiting for that FIGHT! It seems like she, from the start, is hinting at a cataclysmic battle to come. Then the etchings stop at 5, and I'm doing dozens and dozens of max lvl Lakes filled with only Tier 3-4 islands, I've gotten all the types of rings and Reflecting Mists, etc. Kalandra seems angry as all get out at me, though I don't know why... and she doesn't want to fight. Ever. IS THERE A FIGHT? Just for once I'd like to not miss out on the new league's mini-boss fights. I'm so confused about what is the point of this story going on in the Lake. Feel free to DM me if your answer contains too many spoilers, at this point I don't personally care I just want to know what in the yams is going on with the Lake of Kalandra - and more importantly - Kalandra herself. Is there a story, or not? If the spoiler is there is no fight, maybe don't DM me but put it here so story design team can see some feedback I guess. It would be really disappointing if such an important character to PoE had zero impact on the game at all, no point to interacting with her, no battle with her, nada. Kalandra seemed like such a sweet character and I was so excited. But maybe I am just missing stuff... I am so sick of missing everything ngl! For example; during Harvest League I never was able to fight Oshabi. I played the heck out of that league. I played an unhealthy amount of PoE that league, a LOT of PoE. I don't think I even knew it was a possibility. She was just that friendly lady that liked to go on and on about juice. Never once was I presented with the opportunity to fight her, and did not find out until I was done playing that league (late!) that it was even a possibility. During Ultimatum, I found out at the very end of the league about the Trialmaster boss, whom I had never encountered and have only fought recently for the 1st time in this league with the map pieces for the challenge. During Delve, I didn't even think that Delve bosses existed. I never left the Delve during that league except to get supplies from maps. I don't know if they were added later, or what. Cities? Yup. Bosses? Nuh. I went pretty hard in Delve, I guess I didn't hit those 1-2% odds of a boss spawn in a City Area. During Expedition, I was keenly aware there were different bosses but how to encounter them was difficult to find. The ONLY way I knew there was a final fight is because the quest dialogue (that is still on the screen many leagues later for some reason) let me know there was more to do, the Triskellion Flame (sp?) had to be found. If not for that dialogue/challenge, I would've never known there was a potentially challenging fight awaiting me that I should seek out actively if I wanted to complete the story as it were. So you see, I never know wtf is going on. Maybe it's me, maybe it's poor communication or total lack thereof, or a combination of both is more likely. I love Lore. I freaking love Lore. I'm a big nerd and the Lore in PoE is one of the reasons I decided I wanted to play this game all those years back. I love new content. But damn do I have trouble finding out about it. I'm still waiting to find out what happened to Zana. Chris Wilson smirked, smiled, and winked a few livestreams ago when ZiggyD asked if we would find out her fate upon her sad removal from the game - to my understanding we have found out nothing at all... someone could spoil this for me, too, if you got something beyond the fact that she still exists in the Shaper's space with the same old old old unchanged voicelines. Help? Veritania: When was the last time you saw the sun, Exile? The true sun. Me, if I actually want to succeed at all in any given PoE League: Last edited by LizzyInATizzy#6295 on Oct 18, 2022, 12:38:09 PM Last bumped on Oct 25, 2022, 9:37:24 AM

Afaik there is no fight.
The biggest lore connections are that she drops a line (forgot which one) that Izaro uses in lab, so she's likely somehow behind the goddess of justice, if that isn't directly an apparition of hers. And then it's strongly implied she has indeed created unique items, as there's a lore part about people learning too much about her, and then burning themselves alive and destroying all their research; which matches a reliquary scarab's flavour text about the need for the research of uniques to continue, because the last set of scholars burned themselves alive. Yeah, not much... | |

The entire 3.19 league scope was small, very small actually.
There were some voice lines, a reflection mechnaic, and then generic tile sets. That's all. I'm not 100% sure, as I'd have to look back more carefully, but I'm fairly confident in saying this was the weakest, most thin league content wise in many many years, if not ever. The sad thing is that Kalandra is a major character, and many people had hype around what this could mean lore wise. To say, oh it's a bird with a couple voice lines that flies away, and that's all, is a massive disappointment. "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

" Sentinel was even smaller in terms of content scope: ++ 1 new model that shoots reused beams to empower monsters to give them a percentage based buff with old rewards. ++ 1 new type of currency. -- no new monsters -- no new tilesets -- no new voicelines But yes, Kalandra having about as many lines as Tujen has been rather disappointing. you're being an arse!
A mans got to make a LIVING |

" You only get loot drops in Poe from mobs or breakables near mobs. The fact we got loot means we fought and defeated Kalandra. She lives in a mirror-world, and somehow the lake is distorting time, and we only see the end result, mirrored items- but not the fight itself. |
|
" Thats a really interesting point. Leagues that interact with existing content usually feel larger than they actually are, because it modifies the whole game. Like delirium was just a mirror, some extra mob spawns, but it changed gameplay very significantly. (and cluster jewels of course I know) |
|
" They do. I didn't realize how tiny Sentinel was until I took a moment to think about it. Also, often a tiny-in-league-content league gets lumped in a big patch, like Ritual, where the league mechanic itself has very little to it. Though it's imo unfair to lump Delirium into this, I mean, Delirium had: ++multiple new monster types ++2 new bosses ++new temporary map modifier/mode ++new permanent map mode ++new map crafting currency (delirium orbs) ++new challenge with unique level-based design (Simulacrum) ++new type of item that literally changed the game forever (cluster jewels), with an entire array of modifiers, including a 60+ notables ++a ton of voice lines That's multiple times more content than Sentinel + Lake combined.
