2h melee is dead

Any skill that requires you to stand still close to monsters is not feasible.
Not just melee but also most channeling skills.

Look at the vids on YT.
Shoot run, shoot run, shoot run, that's all they do.
And spells are better then bows because they're not depended on items that much.
RF & cyclone allow for doing damage while moving so the mechanics are good but they lack in damage output for endgame.

If you like melee, play some other game.
I think this is sad really, I like smacking monsters in the face with a big hammer!

That's not exactly true. There's a disadvantage but it's not the standing still to attack part that cripples survival. It's the lack of damage and durability to compensate.

I've been shredding using Crackling Lance + Prototype and I face tank the Scourge bosses, 90% of map bosses, most lake bosses, pretty much just mechanic bosses I have to do their mechanics still.

I'm more durable than most my melee builds, least since they butchered Second-Wind + Enduring Cry + IC layering. That was a big hit to melee defense and wasn't even targeting Enduring Cry.

Fortify also just doesn't work at all now unless you're front-end damage.

What does 2H get? Less DPS, Less Defense, More costly.
What does DW get? Less Defense, More costly.
What do Strike Skills get? More Risk, Must use Shield, x10 More costly.

The only "reasonable" options for melee right now is 1h + Shield using an Elemental skill.
Pretty damn limited. Esp in this Scrooge league.

there is a sweet spot where melee players are able to facetank bosses. i get to that point in mapping most of the time, but until then, melee is simply just bad.

the "disadvantage" is horrendously huge, and at higher levels of gameplay it simply becomes less viable as content becomes harder.

just take uber sirus for an example. can you afford to stand close and keep hitting him? i tried it on std, its a glorious shit show where i need to keep moving. he sometimes spawns area denials at the very spot where i am standing. the visual indicator for this is VERY BAD and hard to notice. running away before the area denial expands can cost me a lot of life or outright dying.

not to forget sometimes he leisurely goes for a nice cleansing bath in the middle of those huge ass area denials. if you dont have ancestral call or huge ass weapon range, strike skills will essentially have a lot of downtime.

if melee was given defensive options to bask within sirus's area denials, i would say its really OP.

i would really like melee to be given more defensive options, and i would like melee characters to have easier access to face tank bosses faster to the point they can facetank uber pinnacle bosses basic attacks with little investment. but i dont want it to the point that positioning doesnt matter. yet that is where it hurts the most. delivering constant damage.

ranged spells/attacks allow players to kite and focus on positioning. melee is at a large disadvantage, ggg is not taking melee strike skills into any consideration when designing tough bosses. instead they're hellbent on trying to kill all the kiters. if that means giving melee no proper chance to deliver damage, so be it.

All quite true. I even mentioned earlier in this topic melee has always been an uphill fight when it comes to gearing. Now it's more like a cliff.

The sad thing is melee had these tools before like the Second-Wind + Enduring Cry + IC layering I mentioned. It was my Ultimatum build. I knew I had to stay alive in circles but it wasn't timed so made a durable character. I had Immortal Cry to an 80% avg up time with 6 Endurance charges that only a little shout investment let me keep with Enduring Cry. Then Fortify to top.

If I recall it was 1.4mil phys eHP and 800k elemental of course, 80% of the time.
A modest 2-3mil DPS but that was fine for the league design.

I dusted off Wild Strike from years ago in Scourge and had tons of fun with a melee slanted Raider that league. Complete map freeze and shock. Bossing was a lil more tricky but doable.

Now though, I saw these AN mods and just said Nope. I'm done playing twice as hard for less results. Maybe I'll get to a Trickster build but honestly this league is wearing on me pretty quick. I can't count how many times I've died to Lightning Strider now and I'm Phys cap with Prototype.

I keep coming back every single patch to submit similar feedback/suggestions, but I guess it won't change. I had my fun with this game. Good years. Let's wait for Poe 2.
