The "Vision" is trying to make the ultimate skinner box through deception. And you're failing
I will go on a little tangent here but bear with me.
You go for an interview in a company, and it looks promising, actually a lot of people work there. You have a nice chat with the CEO and ask him about how the daily life in the company is. He says it's a stable job and has a very generous bonus payout structure. You got intrigued, so you follow on with another question. You ask what is so extraordinary about the bonus. The CEO says "you know Jerry here got a Lamborghini last month, and Candice from HR got even a milion bucks in January". You have a feeling something is not right but you see Jerry comming to work with the Lamborghini and you think, wow that could have been me. The CEO says "to make it possible we had to rebalance the salary structure, but don't worry it is still generous, on average people are earning 5% more then in the rest of the market". It seems too good to be true but you sign the contract. You just didn't read the line with the small asterisk that says "The payout structure was rebalanced so you get 10% as a base and 90% is the bonus. But you never know how much will you get at the end of the month anyway so just preserve and maybe you will become Jerry one day". That should never work but here we are even tho that is a game, if in life it sounds ridiculous than in a game it should sound even more so. For me the biggest flaw is balancing the game around trade. And you can't possilbly balance a game like that. More people start joining the game the more people start pulling the RNG Bandit and some people might get a Headhunter or Mageblood. But the bigger it grows the more you have to nerf the drops to balance it out, and SSF might as well be playing hardmode then even without hardmode. In actuality people need incremental improvement. And in a game it should be the main driving force. I wouldn't even mind grinding yellow tier maps if it ment I can improve not by sheer luck and brute force it but actually could target farm some stuff with some deterministic outcome. And not run 10000 maps to get 2 Mageblood cards. Just balance around SSF and who cares what happens in trade. I might almost bet that if the drops where better balanced in SSF more people would go to SSF and not play trade, cause erm you know continuous improvement...? The league is 3 months long anyway, if streamers find it too easy they should play SSF HC and call it a day. Who really cares if one league some people had fun. Better to have fun for one league and make a skip of another then to quit alltogether. |

I've been thinking along similar lines - never really bought that "oh we didn't realize" crap. "Didn't know", "didn't test", "didn't realize" - really...
For a game that's been running for 10+ years I very much doubt that people at GGG don't understand how the game works or what the players want. You know how everyone is saying they'd pay x $$$ a month to play 3.13? That's pretty close to what they have in China now. So maybe that's the ultimate plan, to have POE become pay to play by making it worse and worse every league until people would become willing to pay for what used to be free, just so it's given back to them. Which I wouldn't even mind conceptually tbh, I'm willing to pay money for a quality product that I enjoy, so long as the prices are reasonable. If that were the case, I'd be happy that I can still play the POE I used to enjoy, but would still be very disturbed and annoyed by the disgusting approach. On one hand I'm hoping that's the case, cause it would mean I could still play the game I used to love. On the other hand though... I mean if that's the case, just fucking say so GGG. "Here, you can have this shit version that no one wants to play for free, or you can have this nice snazzy version for 50 bucks a month". |

" no you will message 1000 players, none of them will respond to you. and you will waste all your time waiting for someone to respond to you. On the slim chance that while waiting you will see the popup message telling you that character effects are on sale, you drop $400 on a supporter pack and jerry can get another bonus. chances of getting a beta key 0.000001 %

Because they are being "deceptive" when called out on their lies, it is now gas lighting.
