Global flat negative modifiers to energy shield have no effect in some cases

TLDR: If you have say rings with -100 to maximum energy shield, that value does not subtract from your total es pool unless you have matching positive values that it can subtract from.

After a lot of testing, I'm going to guess that the system works something like this:

There are 3 (2?) variables that handle flat energy shield values,

- One sum that takes es from base types (and local modifiers)
- One sum that takes es from "X% of Y gained as maximum energy shield", as well as conversion
- One sum that takes all flat positives and negatives, such as jewelry mods, abyss jewel mods, flat values on the passive tree, discipline aura, etc.

It seems like before all these sums are added up, they are also capped at 0 rather than allowed to be negative, presumably to avoid bug / abuse cases.

What this means though, is that if you have no other flat increases in the third category, negative values on the new jewelry has no effect at all, as that sum variable is capped at a minimum value of 0 before being added with the others (and then having increases/reductions, more/less, etc apply)

For most builds I imagine this is a positive thing, however for my planned build around Mahuxotl's Machination I had planned around lowering my es pool as much as possible to try to quicker get the positive part of Everlasting Sacrifice.
With this interaction being the way it is currently, all my reflected jewelry from the last few days of effort are pretty much useless for this intent.


Finally, I understand that making hasty changes to core calculations like this is risky business, so it's not a trivial thing to solve most likely, but I still wanted to report it and hope for a fix within this league if possible.

would also like to know if this is a bug or working as intended because i had a build planned around that shield as well and spent a good bit on the jewellery expecting it to give negative energy shield.
