Gloves crafting question

Hihi

I've never crafted before (except for bench) in my life and want to start learning the ropes now.

I'm looking to craft a glove with these stats, what would be the easiest to do so?

I'm thinking of spamming deafening essence of greed

Appreciate any advice pls

1. High life
2. High increased life regeneration rate
3. Fire damage over time multiplier (optional but very good to have)
4. An open suffix for me to benchcraft chaos + lightning res

Craft of Exile is an excellent website to simulate crafting, and I'll be using this to figure out the best ways of doing this.

If you want only the life mods + open suffix, use fossils. This simulation has more details: https://www.craftofexile.com/?b=33&m=fossil&f=|12|&i=|&ob=both&v=d&a=e&l=a&lg=11&bp=y&as=1&hb=0&req={%221775%22:{%22l%22:44,%22g%22:1},%223868%22:{%22l%22:76,%22g%22:1}}&bld={}&im={}&ggt=|5|&ccp={}.

If you want Fire DoT Multi, then you will need either a Shaper or Hunter base. Setting our base to Gloves (https://www.craftofexile.com/?b=33&ob=both&v=d&a=e&l=a&lg=11&bp=y&as=1&hb=0&bld={}&im={}&ggt=|&ccp={}) and clicking on the Shaper and Hunter suffixes respectively, we can see that Shaper FDoTM has a total weight of 400 out of the total 12200 Shaper pool, and with Hunter it's 1000 out of 5500. This means that we're adding less mods to the pool, and our desired mod is more likely. We should choose a Hunter base.

Using essences of greed, we can see from this simulation https://www.craftofexile.com/?b=33&m=essence&e=1233&i=|5|&ob=both&v=d&a=e&l=a&lg=11&bp=y&as=1&hb=0&req={%221619%22:{%22l%22:68,%22g%22:1},%223868%22:{%22l%22:76,%22g%22:2}}&bld={}&im={}&ggt=|&ccp={} that it would take around 869 essences on average to hit T2 or T1 life regen plus T2 or T1 Fire DoT Multi on a Hunter glove. This is not good.

Let's try fossils instead. We set up all the mods we want (T2 or T1 of each, https://www.craftofexile.com/?b=33&m=fossil&i=|5|&ob=both&v=d&a=e&l=a&lg=11&bp=y&as=1&hb=0&req={%221619%22:{%22l%22:68,%22g%22:2},%221775%22:{%22l%22:44,%22g%22:2},%221947%22:{%22l%22:68,%22g%22:1}}&bld={}&im={}&ggt=|&ccp={}), select Fossils as our crafting method, and press Compute Best Selection. This will tell us that we want to use Aetheric, Pristine and Scorched fossils - for an expected cost of well over 1000 chaos. This isn't good either.

What to do then? Well, since we only want 1 influenced mod, and we don't need our gloves to be influenced to start with, we could get our two desired mods (life/life regen rate) and Hunter slam for the FDoTM. Unfortunately Hunter exalts are the most expensive influenced orb, but that's just how it goes sometimes.

Okay. We set up our simulation to find the odds of getting the two mods we want. With Pristine Fossils: https://www.craftofexile.com/?b=33&m=fossil&f=|12|&i=|&ob=both&v=d&a=e&l=a&lg=11&bp=y&as=1&hb=0&req={%221775%22:{%22l%22:44,%22g%22:1},%223868%22:{%22l%22:76,%22g%22:1}}&bld={}&im={}&ggt=|&ccp={}, with Alterations: https://www.craftofexile.com/?b=33&m=alteration&am=aar&i=|&ob=both&v=d&a=e&l=a&lg=11&bp=y&as=1&hb=0&req={%221775%22:{%22l%22:44,%22g%22:1},%223868%22:{%22l%22:76,%22g%22:1}}&bld={}&im={}&ggt=|&ccp={}, and with Essences: https://www.craftofexile.com/?b=33&m=essence&e=1233&i=|&ob=both&v=d&a=e&l=a&lg=11&bp=y&as=1&hb=0&req={%223868%22:{%22l%22:76,%22g%22:1}}&bld={}&im={}&ggt=|&ccp={}. Of these, the fossils seem like the cheapest, and unlike Alterations, they have a better chance of giving us some extra prefixes (this will be important).

Okay, so 19 fossils/52 chaos for the two mods. We then want to make sure we can only slam a suffix with our Hunter's orb. If you have 3 prefixes, then you can only slam a suffix, so that's what we want to aim for. Because the pool of Hunter suffixes is so low, you actually have a really good chance of hitting any one of the DoT Multis, which you should hopefully be able to sell for a profit and start again on a new base.

There are a few scenarios after you get the two mods with Fossils:

1. You have 3 prefixes and 1 suffix. This is ideal, as we can simply slam a Hunter's orb and craft your desired suffix.

2. You have 3 prefixes and 2 suffixes. If you want a crafted mod, you will have to annul. If you annul either of your desired mods, restart with fossils. If you annul a prefix, go to scenario 3. If you annul the unwanted suffix, go to scenario 1.

3. You have 2 prefixes and 2 suffixes. Use a Farric Wolf Alpha beast craft, which will remove a suffix and add a prefix. If you remove your desired suffix, restart with fossils. If you remove the unwanted suffix, go to scenario 1.

4. You have 1 prefix and 3 suffixes. Annul. If you remove a bad suffix, then beastcraft. If you removed the other bad suffix, then you will have 2 prefixes and 1 suffix. Bench-craft a prefix, and now you have 3 prefixes. Go to scenario 1.

Fossils will always give you at least 4 mods, so there are 2 more scenarios left.

5. You have 2 prefixes and 3 suffixes. Depending on the cost of the beast craft and annuls, you can either use a combination of the two to get to where we want (3 prefixes, 1 suffix), or just restart with fossils.

6. You have 3 prefixes and 3 suffixes. It's probably best to restart with fossils.

Okay, that was a lot of information. Let's recap.

We want 2 mods (prefix and suffix), an influenced suffix, and an open suffix for a crafted mod.

We investigated a couple ways of getting all 3 non-crafted mods at once, and decided it was prohibitively expensive.

We investigated a way of getting the two non-influenced mods, and then using a Hunter's exalted orb to slam on the influenced mod. This is much better.

So we are left with a process of:
- Fossil for desired life mods
- Rearrange mods to get the most out of our expensive Hunter orb
- Slam, and see what we get

- If you get FDoTM, success!
- If you get any of the other DoTM mods, you can craft a random suffix (like resistance etc.) and hopefully sell it.
- If you get %Dex, craft Dex and sell.
- If you get Mana on Hit, rip.

Craft of Exile is a great tool. Play around with it, continue to ask questions, watch videos of people crafting things, and you will pick up techniques that will allow you to figure out ways to craft items.

Crafting comes down to how much you are willing to spend to get a certain outcome. If you are on a limited budget let's say it's helpful to know what you are aiming for but also what you are willing to accept. When spamming essences is the method, unless you are made of money, you generally want to aim to spam for ONE other mod as each additional mod beyond that is exponentially more expensive.
Thanks so much for the replies! Really apreciate it.

One last thing - CoE has an Emulator function (find it up the top of the website), which means you can actually try the process without spending any money. Definitely make use of this.

Sorry, can I ask a noob qns?

I managed to get the top 3 stats that I want in my gloves and was intending to use the up to 3 benchcraft modifiers to get lightning resists.

however, i realised i'm missing a suffix and would like to seek further guidance if possible.

Current glove stats
1. 80 life (prefix)
2. 60 life per second (suffix)
3. 18% increased life regen (suffix)

so here are the 2 options that I can think of:

1) use benchcraft for lightning resists (last suffix) and use 2 exalts to add in 2 more random prefixes.

my worry is that I will get garbage prefixes and completely waste these 2 slots..

2) use benchcraft for up 3 modifiers (last suffix) but i'll have to forgo my lightning resists (something I really want to avoid).

Is there any good ways to use (1) and still get useful prefixes (anything related to life, armour or es)??

There is a gamble but it isn't cheap and it isn't guaranteed. You can do 3 Crafted Mods and Suffixes can't be changed (this is 4 divines total). Also craft a junk cheap 3rd prefix.

Then go for Aislinn. It's a 2 in 3 that you don't lose the life. If she takes a craft, remove crafted mods, craft something to block (like mana or anything else you don't want), then unveil something you want. You can still craft something (like Lightning Res).

Keep in mind, there is a 1 in 3 you will lose the life doing this.

There is no way to get 2 good prefixes in addition to the life.

For something like this there's really no point in spending too much on it. I would just craft a resist, and if you're feeling lucky you can try to slam hybrid life on the prefixes.
