" meta is in any online game doesnt need to be pvp for there to be meta it can also be only pve game and there is meta aswell for example look at genshin its just pve mmo game but there is clearly meta like the perfect character combinations you should use in party to succedd in hardest dungeons just an example |

Meta just implies the rest of the skills aren't equal to whatever the meta is.
Yes at times the meta is something smart a player found out & that deserves honor. The the other 3/4th of the time, it's just someone abusing a item or unfair skill. So ultimately the meta is player smarts, if the game was flawlessly fair then the term meta is entirely worth using IQ's sake. Tho most games aren't flawlessly fair between skills & classes. So meta usually just means op mtg cards, or op hearthstone cards, item, or skill ezmode players pick. Well seeing as POE ninja has most people using the same weapon or helm, or stack stacker strategy. I'd say the meta is a few op items & some stat stacker strats. All should be nerfed to oblivion if attaining over 100m dps & overused by 20 pasta ranked people. MTG's meta often boils down to Mythic ranked cards which are b.s. p2w reason for existing & if MTG was about player intelligence. It would only have Common, Uncommon, & Rares. With absolutely no mythic rares. Is every MTG meta mythic? No, tho I'd still rid mythics from mtg. I mean I def quit MTG online due to the lame endgame blue deck have with mythics, they counterspell till they reach their " I win " endgame cards. Or black destroys the field to use a mythic planewalker. Or green uses mythic bugs that summon 40 more bugs. Or Blue uses mythic b.s. on turn 1 to summon a 4/4 mythic mermaid rogue guy from their deck that summons a mythic other card from their deck on turn 2 & you lose. Lame stuff. Reason POE shouldn't have " I win " button chase items. For double to triple dmg or stat stacker equipment. Nor ress immunity flasks. Zero. POE def has many skills that are under performing still. So the meta is simply the opposite of underperforming skills that poe still has. Melee, spell totems, cobra lash, chain hook, minion pathing, scourge arrow still, energy blades still, static strike, duel strikes sfx sounds bad & has no animation, all the skills with the " Blade " title all have bad sound design too (metal hitting metal no thank you), we don't need weaker leveling skills like Heavy Strike, Double Strike isn't unique enough, bone armour's weak, glacier hammer without using zerker, & melee overall not having enough " hack & slash " gems, but gems that perform more like aoe spells. So all of these listed & more require buffs or fine tuning. After everythings equal, maybe the term " meta " won't exist. Why would it, why copy someone elses build for dps reasons or tanky reasons if every build has equal opportunity to have a good front of offense or defense appropriately? 100 people towns with hang out fields. Meta is overdone, like a dead horse that's bloated and waiting for one more kick...
Honestly, the CCs need to step of the hype train and spend one league just doing the OPPOSITE of meta. I bet some of them could make pretty much any build work and could very, very seriously shift the meta (and the market). Like, call it a challenge. One league: Only namelock melee (no LS). Then the next league: Only wands. Ect, ect. Patch Notes 3.15:
