Energy blades gem is now obsolete with new ephemeral edge?

even if this sword does turn out to be expensive (big doubt)

you can just use the energy blades gem until you get one :p

I think this could be good with flicker as the down side of a slow weapon attack speed wont effect flicker too much. Planning a trickster flicker tree now but I think the main issues is this sword will cost a lot probably at least 1 ex at the start of the league probably.

Got to 98 with it in 3.17 (without 5ways / rotas etc) on guardian (flicker / EnergyBlades) so new trickster ephemeral edge should be multiple times better.

I was thinking of trying new Trickster CI Flicker with Ephemeral Edge, what ways is there to sustain Flicker when not playing raider or using terminus est, do you have to use farruls fur body armour?
I was looking at the new ralakesh's impatience boots. You could have a gem in the boots that you dont meet the stats for but have a weapon in your 2nd weapon setup that has the stats to meet the requirements, then weapon swap twice to instantly cap your charges. Definitely a bit janky but eliminates the need for any other sort of charge generation.
Real issue with the sword is going to be the "1" damage hits you'll have like 10% of the time that do no damage. Meaning monsters might get a chance to swing at you while mapping. It's normally not a problem with most lightning melee attacks because they generally have some low end damage but this sword will basically have none. If you get really unlucky you have multiple 1 damage hits in a row and end up hating urself.

Ye if not playing crit you will need a "supercharge" notable from cluster jewel for sure

well, i was gonna do trickster anyway, and because theres nothing over there for sword/lightning nodes, cluster jewel it is! good call on that notable.
thats a lightning mastery now, don't remember if its still on cluster jewels or not but you'll be taking lightning masteries anyway!

I've not seen a flicker build with with less than 8 attacks per second since I did trypanon flicker (pre 3.0?).

Some frenzy sustain options for flicker:
- increased quality on superior flicker gem (e.g. ashes)
- level 5 awakened multistrike (essentially 33% less frenzy charges consumed)
- bloodrage (not for bosses)
- red trail (self bleed)
- farruls fur, make sure you socket reduced duration in the item that you craft aspect of cat on...
- various precursor emblem ring mods (gain up to max charges, frenzy on hit) (frenzy on kill with vaal breach but thats clunky and doesn't work without vaal charges so no endgame bossing)
- frenzy + faster attacks on left click
- doedre's elixir
- sword mastery frenzy chance on hitting unique
- swagger passive (25% chance for frenzy on block, almost useless even with max block)
- Cooldown recovery (Doesn't help that much unless your flicker strike is *really* slow)
- poachers mark used to work but doesn't any more
Thought about it some today and the sword seems kind of meh to me now. With like 5k ES it's just barely better than hyaon's fury and that sword is pretty much considered garbage dps for a weapon. Even if you get more ES like around 10k it's still just way to slow with such a low crit chance. I'm also more convinced than ever that CI is really bad right now. I think I'm switching my league starter to cast on crit lightning conduit.
