Energy blades gem is now obsolete with new ephemeral edge?

New 3.19 ephemeral edge obsoletes energy blades completely. It gives exactly the same damage as energy blades without halving your energy shield, and (I assume) can be dual wielded to be twice as good as energy blades gem...

Ephemeral edge:
"has Attacks with this Weapon have Added maximum Lightning Damage equal to 20% of your Energy Shield. It also now has 25% reduced maximum Life (previously 10%)."

energy blades gem:
Buff grants 50% less Maximum Energy Shield
Energy Blades have maximum Lightning Damage equal to 40% of Energy Shield

So one ephemeral edge does exactly the same damage, without any energy shield penalty...

The gem is now completely obsolete...?

the gem does have 7% base crit chance, and 1.7 aps for 1 handed weapons.

what are these stats on Ephem Edge?

5% and 1.3 so there is that benefit, but I've played energy blades and I'd still take the 50% increased + 100% more energy shield (plus two corrupt implicits potentially)

oh yea E Edge is definitely a candidate to eat all my vaal orbs this league

will also be super easy to make sure it has 'quality increases attack speed' with the harvest change

could be my build tbh....


yea, new trickster, CI, E Edge. doin it. what actual attack am i using lol...

If I read the sword right it probably doesn't work with battlemage so that is a pretty big downside for energy blades coc builds. But yeah it seems better then the gem by a lot.

dual wield doesnt do double damage.

and its only max damage, theres no min damage component on E Edge, unlike E Blade.

itll do the same max damage as energy blades, but with lower crit chance and attack speed.

I think this could be good with flicker as the down side of a slow weapon attack speed wont effect flicker too much. Planning a trickster flicker tree now but I think the main issues is this sword will cost a lot probably at least 1 ex at the start of the league probably.

Got to 98 with it in 3.17 (without 5ways / rotas etc) on guardian (flicker / EnergyBlades) so new trickster ephemeral edge should be multiple times better.
