[BUG] Celestial Herald Effect MTX not working properly (Secrets of Suffering disable the effect)

I recently purchased the Celestial Herald Effect listed in the store as an effect for the Herald of Ice gem: "replace the standard effect on a Herald gem with the celestial version".
When applied to Herald of Ice playing with my character in the Sentinel League the effect doesn't work at all: it apply the graphic effect only to the hands of the character but nothing while playing, no explosion effect like in the video preview: nothing (see gameplay video below).

I tried to restart POE, to change gem (a different Herald of Ice gem), toggle on/off the effect in map, socket the gem in a different item, disabling all auras/heralds except Herald of Ice: no result, the effect MTX is not working in game.

I switched to an old character in Standard league using Herald of Ice with a different main skill (flicker strike) and the effect works without any problem. Trying again with my character in Sentinel league no way to have this effect working.

I tested more Herald gems with my league build and this is the result:

Herald of Ice: not working
Herald of Thunder: not working
Herald of Ash: working

Basically the Celestial Herald Skill Effect with the kill-effect explosions/particles etc is working only with Herald of Ash, with Herald of Ice and Herald of Thunder there is no way to have this effect in game with my league character.

I have no idea why this effect is not working with my character in the league while is working with a different character in Standard.

I think i have found the problem: Secrets of Suffering in the tree disable the Celestial Herald Effect MTX for Herlad of Ice and Herald of Thunder.

If i remove the Secrets of Suffering keystone passive skill (from the The Interrogation Small Cluster Jewel in the tree) the effect works fine.
Herald of Ash is always working fine, with or without Secret of Suffering it works fine.

I think it is a bug: the MTX effect apply to Heralds, so it should work simply turning on an Herald in game.
Secret of Suffering does not change the elemental damage from Herald of Ice but it change only the ailment type: from chill to brittle. It is always cold damage, but above all, the MTX itself is applied to the Herald and not to the type of ailment relying on the effect description in the store.
Looks like the MTX is not working with Brittle and Sapped but works fine only with Scorched.

Disabling the Secrets of Suffering passive skill the effect works fine with all the aforementioned heralds (unfortunately this passive skill it is necessary for my build in league...)

This isn't a bug.

Secrets of Suffering says "Cannot Ignite, Chill, Freeze or Shock".

In order to shatter things, they need to die while frozen, so of course Herald of Ice stops working. The MTX is irrelevant.

the MTX is applied to the Herald, not to the ailment.

And if you know the game, you should know that Herald of Ice NO NEED to freeze enemies to be effective, since freeze/chill is an ailment and the ailment is not applied by the Herald itself, but by the elemental damage type:



Herald of Ice adds cold damage to attacks. Stop. You no need to freeze enemies to shatter them... who ever seen this kind of things in the game?
This is a lack of knowledge.

Also: why the effect is working with Herald of Ash than?

Brittle and Sap ailments not working with the MTX (chill/freeze and shock), but Scorch yes (ignite)... cmon, it is clearly a bug.


Years ago when this MTX was released (2018) there was a similar bug report in the forum about another Herald (Herald of Purity if i remember) and the bug was known. Secrets of Suffering was introduced 2 years ago and looks like the bug is now present but only with Herald of Ice/Thunder and only having Secrets of Suffering keystone.

Clearly a bug, no way.

The effect is "Celestial Herald Effect", its not "Celestial Ignite/Scorch ailments Effect", it is clearly a bug.

How can people coontinue to arguing about "freeze" and aimlents when the MTX description clearly say it is applied to the Herald gem, and when the Herlad gem description itself clearly explain the effect without any mention about ailments, since you can apply ailments without the Herald?

This is not a bug, you simply don't understand how Heralds work.

Herald of Ice and Herald of Thunder's on-kill effects have a trigger that requires you to kill a frozen enemy, or kill a shocked enemy respectively to occur.

If you cannot freeze or shock enemies due to Secrets of Suffering, you will find it very difficult to trigger the HoI/HoT effects, and you will thus not be able to see the microtransactions applied to those effects other than the buff effect on your character's hands (which you've already commented on being able to see).

Herald of Ash simply requires you to overkill an enemy, it does not require an ailment to be applied at all for its effect to occur. As such, Secrets of Suffering does not prevent you being able to cause Herald of Ash's on-kill effect, which is why you can see this one happening but not the other two.

Further proof of this is in your clip in your first post - regardless of the microtransactions, your clip shows you aren't triggering the on-kill effects to start with, let alone with the microtransactions applied.

Because the skill explodes on shatter, and you're not shattering so you're not seeing the explosion. 'nuff said

You cxan talk about ailments allday, but ailments are not the result to have an active Herald on your character, cuz freeze for example is applyed by critical strikes with cold damage; NOT by Herald of Ice itself.

Another time, the MTX description in the shop is clear, no way.

Cmon. You buy an effect MTX considering the description and video preview about it, not supposing that there is a huge missing part in the description or the videopreview of the effect.
