800,000,000th impression of the Maven fight
Bottom line: really just not fun.
It doesn't feel like POE. My two biggest problems are: * memory game - feels arbitrary * gravity well balls - obviously people have this down; I don't! My main (only) issue is I have no idea how to tell them apart from all the other balls flying around the arena. Now, I'm old (65) and generally poor at the boss fights - I accept that. I think growing up before consoles existed probably hasn't helped my video game reflexes :) But this fight feels so out of place. It's a shame it is a main-line fight, needed to fully unlock the Atlas. Cheers and carry on! Last edited by Olvenskol#5170 on Jul 14, 2022, 7:36:52 PM Last bumped on Jul 15, 2022, 4:02:42 PM

While I agree that the memory game feels rather arbitrary to a boss fight, it fits the Maven really well thematically.
She's, maturity wise speaking, a little kid. It loves to play, and play involves massacre, murder, pulling her "dolls" from the atlas "Playground" together, and put her against her "favourite action figure" (Spoilers, it's you) While I am personally against putting lore above gameplay, I think in this case it balances itself out really well, and makes Maven for one of the more interesting fights. I do wish it would be a bit nicer for the people visually impaired (If you have red-green deficits, it absolutly seems to suck so I've read) The balls just I think just comes down to practice. If you played enough you probably accumilated some currency on standard, so you could always go and give it a whirl there, with no fear of losing anything |

While I don't mind the first 2 memory games, having the memory game during her last phase just seems like a huge troll to me.
Most characters who are made to be decent bossing characters do not have the required movement speed (they are not zoomzoom characters - duh !) and so making the last memory game happen AT THE SAME TIME as those moving lasers which remove regeneration and other attacks just feels like a kick in the nuts to 95% of bossing builds. It's like GGG saying "Well, we know how you guys make tanky bossing characters, and we just decided to throw all that out into a dumpster fire, now in order to do this fight without dying you need to go full retard- er... We mean glass cannon and movement speed". And don't get me started on the level 85 versions of bosses. It feels like GGG is just constantly saying to us "Look, these bosses are impossible to tank, don't even try to tank them, just build a fucking cast on death softcore character and explode them, surviving is overrated." And that just feels like an insult to injury for bossing builds. The avatar showing Elreon kinda looks like "wtf did i just see?"

Memory game at last phase sucks really hard. Still fail it 50/50. Maven was most hated boss for me. But after upgrading gear she becomes just a little annoyance. Still memory game sucks and should go to hell.
Now my #1 hated boss is Kosis on 25+ wave of Simulacrum. May instakill entire location with no way to avoid it. May become near immortal you get resist to your damage type. May instakill you with basic attack if you get too many damage mods. And so on. |

i have said this before
even in the last phase the memory game itself isnt the problem, its the poor visibility when you have to move around because of a laser a simple overlay were map mods are displayed that highlights the right area would help a lot it could be something simple like a circle with 3 areas and the "right" area highlight red at the same time the ground area does |

I hate the memory game with a passion. I'm so disappointed that this was chosen for end game boss design. So lazy, so irritating.
Although, the lore explanation another poster gave really fits, and has me wanting to forgive it on some level... But still. I'm never fighting Maven any more than necessary. Having the awakened skill gems as a reward hasn't been enough to entice me to do it, and I really wanted those gems. Edit: For op, here's the link to the guide I watched to figure out the fight. I was able to finally discern which balls were which. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zzy_fZacCB4 Softcore, solo self-found. ----- Currently: ----- Holy Relic of Conviction Flicker Strike Necromancer in Mercenaries Last edited by SunsetVista#4840 on Jul 15, 2022, 1:00:13 PM

I'm gonna be in the minority here but until the very last phase of the fight I think the Maven is possibly one of the coolest boss fights in the game. I think it's the perfect balance of difficulty and a lot of her move sets can be learned and spotted. Compared to Sirus aka big red shitstorm screen clusterf$ck, this one is pretty great!
I'm not gonna comment on the uber versions. It's just more stuff on the screen and alot more degen. I don't find that really interesting for the most part. All the phases are pretty neat and it's not until that last phase the fight goes off the rails. Somebody else mentioned this but memory game isn't too bad but the last phase is so insanely difficult because your trying to dodge everything else and it's barely possible to see where you need to go. Screen clutter in this game is a underlying problem for me in poe. The only times I get through this phases is I get lucky with a easy pattern to spot. I never feel in that phase like I finally figured it out, I just have to rush her down or I die. It's feels cheap compared to the other phases of the fight. other then that last phase though. One hell of a fight. |

" I dont think you're the minority. Just on the forums you are, which is a compliment 99.9999% of the time. The posts on the forums, including this one, are just a bunch of git gud problems. I love this fight and the last phase is one of the coolest things in the game. Actual mechanics you have to engage with an pay attention to. Rather than what most bosses are: Me dps, Me stand, Me move out of Bad, Me stand again Me win Me Happy -1 POE needs more stuff like the maven's memory game and no regen beams. Actual mechanics that engage you, and if you fail there are consequences. They got pretty close with Exarch fireballs. As well as Black Star's mechanics. Mash the clean
