Please ban all portals, maps, & hideouts for POE 2. < Favoring endgame story zones.
This isn't a mmo post. Story zone requests aren't ness open zones. Even tho I'd prefer open zone story zones. I'll settle for endgame story zones with the regular POE multiplayer.
So endgame regular act zone. Reminder thread. Favor Act 11 to 20 features. Besides maps or portals for POE2. So erase portals from the POE 2 roadmap forever. Erase them. Maybe add some from POE 1. Tho don't make new features for portals or maps. Then make rad endgame story zones have extended paths. Paths that even if not open zones, still don't lead to a dead end. Rather just get rid of all the cow level portals. Rid the WoW Garrison hideouts (find a new way to mtx without isolating people like a prison would, even if people were allowed to fashion their WoW garrison; garrisons for WoW would still not have been popular for reasons of isolation). Also teleporting to peoples hideout just to make 1 trade is meh. Unnecessary load screens. Just make people play 10$ to use the AH via a town. Instead of all this tab online site way of AH or teleport trade stuff. No thanks. AH active town. Once again regular town, not mmo thread. Just regular AH act towns then. Even if the town isn't mmo pop sized of 100. Still would favor a endgame town that the regular 20 people multiplayer town use. Over hideout party atlas huddles of 6 or less. However too lazy to read the notes for POE 2's questing zones or review the trailer. So I'm sure they have this already to some degree. Obviously POE 2 has a new quests. I just hope they don't ruin POE 2 with a map based endgame. When it would easily be better as ever evolving endgame extended story zones. However the hideout is what ruins this. I wouldn't base mtx off a game feature that limits the multiplayer experience even if your not full mmo then 20 sized towns of activity. As you would already have without hideouts 20 sized towns or people. & You don't. Or its deserted. For hideout reasons. D2 you used portal to return to the story zones & ye d2 didn't extend it's story zones to WoW timelines. Yet POE is. I don't believe D3's strat was to have a isolated garrison that brought you to 100 versions of the cow lvl. & now d4 is open zoned tho this thread isn't about open zones. It's just about story zones, that don't get overshadowed by maps or portals. Story zones are 1000% better for funds than a map or portal feature is ever going to attain. Yet they nearly are priced at the same price to fund. 1 feature 1000% better for equal fund ratio. The cow lvl was only fun as it was the only zone like it that you went to a random portal & fought cows as a meme. Tho you don't want 100 variations of that. You only want a few portals & then the other 98% of the game is zones that had quests near them & weren't just rolled maps. D2 tried to have story atmosphere with the cinamatics & stuff. Portals are never going to have that. Would be more like rp dark tavern bard towns on fire. That you didn't just randomly ship to. You had narrative quests. If POE 2 has a new max lvl. Then they may keep maps for mid game. While story should still have relevance later. When POE 2 gets to Act 20. They hopefully extend the paths out from a active Act 20 town & not have hideout maps like POE 1. Late Quest Bridge 100 people towns with hang out fields. Witcher taverns. Free hair style options. have you even *read* anything about poe 2?
poe 2 is NOT a new endgame. its an alternative / parallel story (8 acts, subject to change), that leads into a SHARED endgame. maps and mapping arent going *ANYWHERE* the level cap isnt changing. Poe '2' story is how you will access new classes and ascendancies. current stuff will use the current story. Characters completing either story will be approx the same level, so that the shared endgame can start at whatever designated point ggg decides. and nobody will feel 'pressured' to pick one or the other story in order to have an advantage when starting the endgame. People PAY for hideouts. or farm 100's of maps for the rare unlock. And spend HOURS designing them. HIDEOUTS ARENT GOING ANYWHERE. |

Just reskinned acts for some new classes? Without endgame zones that resolve the reason for story acts existing at all? Sounds like something Lost Ark would feature for a expansion. Just enough to get players to play again, but nothing expanded for the overall game.
Lost Ark is gonna have new class expansions too, still won't be enough to make that game amazing. Take away maps. Ruin? Taking away the cow lvl wouldn't ruin diablo 2 & then if D2 progressed at the time; would have just made Act 6 to Act 8 for expansions. & not more cow lvls. Just more diablo 2 acts past LOD. People pay for waifu npcs that follow you around. They'd pay for guild wars 2 bard instruments with notes too. They don't need hideouts for mtx or profit. Also WoW garrisons weren't popular, so hideouts for mtx isn't even the popular route or trend for mtx either. It's trendy for nobody. Sure it makes profit, but that feature never trended. Of any game. Housing only trends with final fantasy as the whole realm does rp. That's the only reason it works there. Everywhere else it didn't work. House zones didnt work for Black Desert either. Not popular there enough. I paid 100$ & spent nothing on hideout stuff & I'd say most buy for char fashion mainly. So chars are going to always be first. & the char wants to escape from isolated waiting rooms. Exploration. " Path " of Exile not " Portal " of exile. Rename every POE thread " Nothing New Here ", as that is what most of this forum of reply'ers deserve. By their standards not of mine. Not to mention the cow lvl was a meme. Most people farmed the bosses from story for d2. So if your gonna extend a feature from d2, pick the one that was better sheesh. 100 people towns with hang out fields. Witcher taverns. " you're playing this game for not even a year... and you feel like shitting about the core mechanics? which you potentially didnt even reach too many times? you dont even have a single level 90 char, you havent completed a single eternal lab etc. and whats funny about that is, that the lack of ingame effort your managed to bring up, is the same sorry amount of effort that you brought up for this post. Evidence: This is not a MMO post - brings up WoW and Lost Ark since there are way too many things in both of your posts that are at least disturbing... imma just ask you one thing. Why dont you play lost ark then? why dont you play anything else when you are soooo sick of "cow levels and portals" instead of posting things that make you look "not smart"? what i wish for poe is some sort of automated process where i stop doing
the "chisel-alch-scour-alch-vaal" process because i'd like to concentrate myself on farming stuff not preparing half an hour before i can do so its enough that i allready have to plan a build for the endgame "imo" "There are Penalties in the Game, no one's complaining about them"

A while ago, I suggested to quit using maps as items. By now combined playerbase keeps millions of maps they won't ever be able to spend, and this clogs account database and causes map conversion mess each league, which is a pain for both players and devs.
Instead, player could do the "chisel-alch-scour-alch-vaal" in map device UI directly, with either buttons for each applicable currency (better), or dropping currency on some central UI element (easier to make). The whole concept of map availability can be replaced with picking target area from the atlas screen, or typing map name like search boxes do. Should also have quickbar for favored maps, to be able to select them quickly without doing the above steps. When unlocking atlas for the first time, it should have a few areas as starting ones, and completing each area unlocks areas connected to it. After target area is selected, player clicks reroll buttons (spending currency per click) until satisfied, and is ready to go. However, this is a massive amount of devs work "just" for player QoL, so GGG won't touch map itemization anyway. |

I'm going to end this thread & not bump. As I shoulda probably titled the title something more polite than " ban " as they may offend some people. However the subject still stands true. Ye I have more maps to do past 90 & I'm sure their is more entertainment value to get from that experience. Tho just for the maps from after Act 10 till late 80's I've done with 30 alts or less. & I must say those maps AREN'T as enjoyable as the Acts.
The % of people who probably quit this game right after Act 10 would perhaps stagger most of you even the devs. & I'm not trying to sound rude, but that's just a fact. None of you know how many people quit this game after Act 10 & you'd be extremely surprised to know thats where most people quit. I'd bet. So you may divide all the pc rpg gamers to arpg genre or mmorpg genre. Tho really the line of rpg for the pc isn't that defined. Many people play both. You may divide these genre's tho people are going to quit mainly after Act 10 either way. Player retention of new players verses what some niche poe streamer wants are 2 entirely different enterprises. I highly doubt most player retention has anything to do with the last 10% of maps. I bet most quit before that. Most quit before getting multiple alts to lvl 84 or they get 1 to lvl 94 once & quit. Most arn't quitting during the Acts, they are quitting at Maps. Does that mean maps don't have entertainment that I have yet to see, they have that. Tho whiether I'm entertained further from elitist maps or not. Won't alter the fact that story zones are more appealing to the majority of players. New players for sure. & Vets? Well vets have never gotten endgame story zones so they don't know what they are talking about as for experiencing that. Are endgame story zones going to mess with this games core design? No? Diablo 2 had endgame story zones. The Act waypoints were used more than portals. Also EXPLORATION how do you title a game " Path " when theirs nothing to path to. The maps have pathing, tho the overall design of bridging the story zones has no path. Path of dead end story zone to dead end town to dead end hideout to dead end map to return to dead end hideout. Nothing is bridged for endgame & that will always fail the story mode player for immersion. Or fail the multiplayer party player for openness of field relativity. Oh well done bumping this thread. Later. Yet it appears MMORPG isn't everyones problems. Its just features that are different from unpopular trends they have been working with. Bridge the story zones 24/7, per patch. Ya'll act like they are never gonna make new zones & that the new zones they do make have to be portal hideout based. Ehh. Why. The old zones may have to be. Tho new zones too? Ye right. If I fight a boss at diablo 2's endgame & after this endgame brought me to a 6th Act. That would be better than Diablo 2 rehashing more cow lvls. As soon as Act 10 Ends. The essense of multiplayer dies. Your no longer partying to quest. Even tho people are stupidly zooming past the Acts like a race task & not enough enjoying the flow. Or even the new league mechanic for that much, many skip just to reach maps. Then when you get to maps its just 1 zoomer whos 10 lvls higher you die a lot. IF you dont die then you have to run too fast. They kill everything meh. Party members die or dont keep pace they quit. Meh. Then you redo another map at a isolated hideout when you really want to go to the story town that they bring you to after Act 10. & Wish that Act 10 finish town was x10 bigger with extended neighboring zones & loops of open regions to bridge. Tho no you go to someones hideout with few people, no town, no larger playerbase to see at endgame, just these few people who race too much. Ye I'm going to ask for that to be different only a mad man wouldn't ask for that to be different. & I would toss you a " poe's party experience sucks " thread from some other random person months ago. Just to prove other people believe party gameplay needs help. Even without parties as a solo single player, the single player experience is suppose to be about continuity of story. Or bridged stories. With perhaps cinamatics or voice actors leading a story campaign for endgame. How is maps going to provide the story single player experience? They won't. So maps fail parties & maps fail story pve'ers. So maps are only for niche item collectors. People who want to collect cow lvl items over & over. No endgame pvp, no towns, no endgame quests that are important, no endgame acts, no bridged zones, no endgame strategy unrushed party gameplay, so just item collector nerds who bring their items to their mtx garrison hideout. Wouldn't alter the game. Asking for extensions of the stuff they already have. Psh even d2 devs would have been able to make a Act 6 to Act 8. 20+ years ago. D2's engine woulda handled that just fine. If they had the time. Without story acts the important factor of quests falls off the radar & you lose reason to expand other than " stats ". Tho def the quest venture exploration sense isn't there. So ye maybe after 90 that returns. The quest ventures dies down after Act 10 & huddled hideout squads aren't good enough. I was just listening to Act 2 Diablo 2 music. The ambient music is sooo good & YES Diablo 2's towns played a mega role giving D2 the atmoshpere d2 required. 100 people towns with hang out fields. Why waste funds on a 5th Act. " Also some party member once told me they were going to do Acts like so originally & not have Maps. Tho some dev got lazy & messed the continuity or made the next step seem more complex than it really was. So they went with the map idea out of being lazy for how to bridge new acts to a endgame. Or something similar, so I've been told. Who knows if true. Yet I believe the devs did reach a point after building Act 10 where they had to go " Wait " " Do we want more Acts or huh? " & They picked the wrong path. As evolving their acts was the better option. Tho ye I'm sure maps are lazier to make more of. Than late fresh story zones are.
