This Characters Name has Expired

Just logged in after not being able to play due to personal reasons and this is what I get for my character. This Characters Name has Expired. Come on why didnt i get an email warning me you were going to give my name to someone else. This is the name i use in all games i have ever played and its the name that friends look me up on.
Puts me off from playing to be honest having to change my name and possibly see some other random running around using my name Last bumped on Aug 27, 2023, 5:10:38 AM

" Hiya, I'm afraid after a year of inactivity character names become available to be taken by other players. However, if your character name has an asterix you can try re-naming the character to the same name. If another player has not claimed the name your character name will be successfully updated. |

Why do you not notify us this is about to happen? I have never had this problem with any other game. My character name is the same as my account name. Pretty silly allowing someone to steal my name really isnt it without warning. Poor customer service to be honest.

" Sadly this is nothing new. GGG doesn't give any kind of notification (unless you have put MTX on a watchlist) nor do they give any kind of warning before accounts is locked / banned. So if the char name is now in use by another person, then it's lost to you "forever" or until that person hasn't used it for 1 year....... |

" That's not correct. If the name is not in use, GGG support can change it for you. Normaly the process for that is that you make a new temp char with the name you want, e-mail GGG support asking for them to delete "TEMP char XXX" and move the name to char YYY. |

I have a question, is it the inactivity of the character name or the PoE account?

" The account, you have to log into the game at least once a year to avoid your names expiring. Just a lowly standard player. May RNGesus be with you.
