Mechanically unable to complete Infinite Hunger due to Corrosive Hunger

Hi, just wanted to point out that a stacking debuff like corrosive hunger can limit the kind of builds that can do The infinite hunger if there is no way to remove the stacks.

My build is based on taking self damage with scolds, and regaining the damage I take by having 90% phys mit against the 4500 hit I take each time I cast a spell. Sadly due to the flat phys mit reduction that the debuff applies to me even 4-5 stacks will ruin this balance and I will start to kill myself.

It would be very nice if this might add overwhelm for enemies hitting the player instead of changing the players stats. Or give a way to cleanse the debuff.

The previous debuff that would lower armour/evasion is a better alternative as this would allow me to survive a higher stack amount. But it also ruins other build which was the reason it was changed in the first place iirc.

-------------------

I guess I could get a carry as well but that just feels bad.

the trick is to let the boss kill you everytime before you get swallowed.

honestly the whole getting swallowed part is a neat gimmick that overstays its welcome very quickly.

also if i DO get swallowed, i let the mobs kill me.

its still faster than slogging my way looking for an exit.

the mechanic is so bad i d let my character die than play the way its intended.

if ggg reads this and be like ok we gonna "fix it" so you're forced to stay in the devoured state when you portal back in.

i can tell GGG here and now, the boss isnt even worth my time running. the amulet is meh. the eldrict implicits that can roll on it are meh. i already have a few ashes of stars. make it harder. i dont care. its simply not worth running

Exist to character screen, come back, kill it more.

While I understand your struggle, I feel like this may be the only case where the debuff actively bricks a build, and it's such a niche case that I doubt there'd be much investment, if any, involved by the devs to fix such a rare problem.

On the "Plus" side, this boss only HAS to be donce once, in a weakened state, so at least you have that going for you, which is nice.

I do also have a bone shatter juggernaut which is also bricked in this fight due to lowering my phys mitigation against my own self damage. But I see where you are coming from. I still think it's importent to mention even if it's niche, as I really like self damage builds like these.

It is a shame that I cannot take these builds through all the story content without heavily changing them for one boss fight. If it might have been optional or just a map boss I would probably not have this concern.

Funnily enough, I do believe the minions that you encounter in the sludge are mainly physical damage, no? I presume with scold's bridle you have absurd phys mitigation?

Would it be viable for you to just... take the hits instead of trying to deal damage? The debuff only stacks with each killed monster in the sewers, otherwise none of that happens.

No it stacks over time at least 2 weeks ago, so unless this was changed recently. It has never been after each add killed while you are under iirc.

Since you only have to do that boss once, can you wait till you are absurdly overpowered for the quest version of that fight so you can nuke him before the tide comes in? I know that's not a great solution but it might let you progress.
With game design like that, it feels like their priority is making something that would look as unique as possible from the outside, for someone watching a stream or a trailer. "But how would the players deal with it" comes later, if at all.

It is sad how the core devs make a great product, and then designers screw it all with one wild feint after another. Dragging a 10-year old proprietary engine all the way up to DX12/Vulcan is an impressive feat, and yet PoE is the most unwelcoming and frustrating game I ever saw.
